A Pair Of Toilets At Peterborough Station

Coming back from Lincolnshire yesterday, I had a few minutes to wait for my train to London on Platform 3. As there was a sign to toilets, I thought I’d sort myself out before the train arrived.

I found two spacious identical unisex toilets.

If you were of any sexual orientation, in a wheelchair, needed a place to change a baby or just wanted a quick splash and dash, I don’t think, anybody would find a problem with this pair.

They were also scrupulously clean. But then most station toilets generally are these days. Earlier in the day, I’d used the toilets at Lincoln station and they were very clean too!

I do think that the quality and cleanliness of toilets has been one of the biggest improvements of train travel in the UK, in the last fifty years in the UK.

  1. Perhaps they could give lesson to other places. I have come across some disabled toilets that a person in a wheelchair or mobility scooter could not get into because of things in front of the entrances – A very famous store whose GF food I enjoy is very bad for this – their favourite is putting a clothes rails in front of lift doors.

The toilet on the right of the photo looks wider than the other door, although it could be the angle of the shot. I would like to think that it had a hoist and adult changing table. I don’t need that, but I know people who do.

My favourite shopping place before lockdown does have several them about the place, including I think in the cinema toilets. Since the pandemic, my favourite place to shop is right where I am sat, with a ice cup of tea and a comfy computer chair.
