Collecting National Rail Tickets

I took this picture at the Elizabeth Line entrance at Tottenham Court Road station this morning.

Transport for London are telling people they must go to a National Rail station to pick up National Rail tickets.

There are good reasons, why some passengers like to pick up their tickets at the station, where they enter the rail network.

If I go to Gatwick, as I have a Freedom Pass, I need to buy a ticket from East Croydon to Gatwick.

My normal way to get to Gatwick would be to take a bus to Moorgate and get the Elizabeth Line or the Metropolitan Line one stop to get Thameslink.

But I wouldn’t pass a ticket machine.

I count download the ticket to my phone, as my left hand can’t be relied on to retrieve it.

A better solution for me and many others with a Freedom Pass would be to link it to a bank card, so that the extra could be automatically charged.

Conclusion

Transport for London have no imagination.

  1. I book all my train tickets with Greater Anglia. They now send out ticket confirmations in PDF format which can then be printed and read on ticket readers at barriers or by on train staff as well as sent to mobiles.A useful back up in the event of dying phone batteries.

    • I don’t have a printer that works. My new computer has Windows 10, which is rubbish compared to Windows 7 and it won’t drive a printer I bought about 5 years ago.

Microsoft are racketeers and are only trying to force me to buy a new printer.

      • I on the other hand ditched Windows altogether about the time that Windows 8 became Windows 10
(2015 I think?) and changed to a Google Chrome book which I still have.Works perfectly and will print both on wifi and usb connections.

  2. My laptop is Windows 11 and previously Windows 10. The previous laptop was Windows Vista through to Windows 10.

The printer (with a scanner in it) (Epson BC300F) was bought with the old laptop and so worked with Vista and it has continued to work all the way to and including Windows 11. But every new version of Windows required the printer and scanner drivers to be reinstalled. So still working.
