London Overground: New Names For Its Six Lines Revealed
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on the BBC.
This is the sub-heading.
The new names of London’s six Overground lines have been revealed, significantly changing the look of the famous Tube map.
These are the first two paragraphs.
Last August, Transport for London (TfL) announced it wanted to give the routes distinct identities to make it easier for passengers to navigate the network.
The services will become known as the Lioness line; the Mildmay line; the Windrush line; the Weaver line; the Suffragette line; and the Liberty line.
Yesterday, I wrote ‘Packed Trains And Delays On The New Misery Line’.
Surely, the money that this pointless rebranding will cost, would be better spent on improving the woeful Central Line.
I hope someone puts up a decent candidate against Khan in this year’s Mayoral election, so London can remove this arrogant Mayor, who never listens to any reasonable dissenting voice.

About This Blog
What this blog will eventually be about I do not know.
But it will be about how I’m coping with the loss of my wife and son to cancer in recent years and how I manage with being a coeliac and recovering from a stroke. It will be about travel, sport, engineering, food, art, computers, large projects and London, that are some of the passions that fill my life.
And hopefully, it will get rid of the lonely times, from which I still suffer.

The BBC reported that it’s going to cost £6.3 million (up from £4 millions a year ago) to rebrand the Overground routes. Sadly that won’t make much of a dent in the Central Line’s woes.

Surely, the Brunel Line is a shoe-in name for the East London Line.

We don’t do engineering in the UK anymore

Is it me or are these names leaning heavily to political correctness?
Comment by MauriceGReed | February 15, 2024 |
We need scientific correctness not political correctness.

Unlike some, I am not a diehard anti-Khanist, but these names are woefully misguided and should never have been IMPOSED on us. Why didn’t they ask Londoners for suggestions? Distinguishing the routes by different colours makes sense, but these PC names are self-evidently daft and divisive. I certainly won’t be using any of them.

My father was a Cockney poet, who used to satirise Hitler and Mussolini during the war. He’d certainly have a poem for these names.

Just a bit of politicking. Some already have nicknames, like the Goblin Line (Gospel Oak to Barking).

Alternative names: Sadiq’s Barking Line, Eu-Wat? Line, Empire Line (as it serves Imperial Wharf and the Hackney Empire), Hoxton & Paxton Line (Crystal Palace), the Ice Line (Romford-Upminster marked the southernmost limit of the Anglian Ice Sheet) and the Gun & Bomb Line (munitions manufacturing in Edmonton & Enfield and terrorist cells in Stoke Newington).
