Has Barnsley Interchange Station Closed?

The last time I went to Barnsley for the fooball, I took the train to Barnsley Interchange, changing at Sheffield.

The station doesn’t seem to exist on any train booking web sites anymore.

There are also no instructions on the Barnsley FC web site, about how to get to the ground by public transport. We can’t all drive you know and are those that can’t, considered losers in Barnsley.

I did e-mail Customer Support at Northern Rail about this. This is the reply I got.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Northern, the train company serving commmunities across the north of England.
We aim to respond within 20 working days.

In the meantime we can confirm receipt of your feedback/enquiry.

Twenty days to respond is very helpful considering, I want to travel there on the 2nd of October.

Has it closed?

  1. No..its still there…
If you are using “train line” to book tickets…its still there…has had a rebuild recently…looks like something out of tele-tubbies…(from the colours).
Name on train line…is something crazy…let me see what I find from here…
I am out of the country….

    • It’s not in the web sites, but Barnsley is. Surely, that’s a different station. I want the one that is called Interchange that is just a short walk signposted walk to the football ground.

I never use the trainline, as I find that the actual train companies give better prices and don’t spam you with unwanted offers. They’re all fur coat and no knickers.

  2. The Interchange with both the bus station and the Trains is certainly still there….

I have no ideas as to why you cant find it.
Its a big building, lots of buses and trains…..

    • It does exist on the Train Line but you can’t buy tickets to it.

  3. According to Wikipedia Barnsley Interchange was renamed Barnsley in 1960. Though of course Wikipedia is notoriously unreliable. It does also say that some services from St Pancras were dumped in 2008 as they were ‘not seen as necessary’!

    • I spoke to a nice man at St.Pancras and he said that it’s now called Barnsley again. So Wikipedia is out of date.
