Ruin Lust At The Tate Britain
I saw this exhibition at Tate Britain, when I went to see the Richard Deacon exhibition a few days ago.
Today, Ruin Lust is reviewed in the Standard by their respected art critic, Brian Sewell. He says this.
But what is? Any ordinary bloke unwise enough to chance £10 on this exhibition will depart baffled and bewildered.
And he continues in the sane vein.
The Guardian describes it as a brilliant, but bonkers exhibition.
The Times calls it a fetishist take on property porn and gives it two stars.
I actually thought that both exhibitions, had a touch of the emporer’s new clothes about them.
I think a lot of things have a touch of The Emperors New Clothes about them, the musical Cats springs to mind – I love original poems, and I like some of them converted to songs, but the musical was awful. As is the book 50 Shades of Grey – and not because of the sexual content. Same reason I rarely read books which have been nominated for things like Man BooKer prize, they are usually pretentious tommy rot! However, I did read Testament of Mary by Colm Toibin from this years list, and enjoyed it.

I’ve always thought Fifty Shades of Grey, was written after listening to male fantasies down the pub or rugby club. One part I found bad, was the descriptions of flying in a small aircraft, as I used to be a pilot with a 1,000 hours of experience, much of which was with my wife. I suspect, that the author had never done much flying, as otherwise other things would have been said.

I don’t think I persevered long enough to get to that bit. It was basically a load of twaddle, with sex scenes included to try and sell it!

In some ways, I’ve found that there is often a humorous side to sex and relationships and anything light-hearted is missing from that book.
