DownThe Hill In A Sunny Sheffield

I took these pictures as I walked from the Leopold Hotel to the station.

The Winter Garden was a total surprise. In fact, when I saw it, I was rather disappointed that I’d had a morning coffee in a Cafe Nero.

It was a very easy walk with the hill.

As I got to the bottom, it struck me that it might have been an idea to put the odd escalator in the climb to make it easier to walk up. Perugia has a similar problem of getting up the hill and they have used escalators to advantage.

  1. You mention Cafe Nero – have you tried their gluten free coconut slice, it is really really good. And it comes wrapped so no contamination. Their gluten free brownie is ok too, although have a slight preference for Starbucks brownies. Or my home made vegan gluten free salted caramel brownies

    • One of the few things I hate with a vengeance is the taste of coconut.

On Tuesday, East Midland Trains were giving out gluten free macaroons. So I skipped them as well!

  2. I am surprised you stayed at the Leopold. It used to be the City Grammar School and the Central Tech. The photos on the walls are often of “old boys and girls”. Leopold couldnt organise a bun fight in a bakery as far as Gluten free is concerned….if they have improved since the farce of last November for my late Mothers memorial lunch..then the grief wasnt in vain.

  3. As I was having dinner with my friend in Carluccios in the Ecclesall Road and leaving early for lunch in Cambridge, the only thing I ate or drunk in the hotel was water.
