Shoppers Slam ‘Joke Prices’ At Trafford Centre’s First Paid-For Car Park
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on the Liverpool Echo.
This is the sub-heading.
The new ‘Premium Parking’ zone will go live later this month as Christmas shoppers descend on the centre
These two paragraphs add more details.
Trafford Centre shoppers have been left fuming as the mall’s bosses confirm the pricing for its brand-new “Premium Parking” zone. The popular shopping destination has cordoned off a section of the car park, adjacent to Selfridges, to introduce its first-ever paid parking area with larger bays.
It’s been revealed that this Premium Parking will open for business on Wednesday, November 27, and the full price list has certainly turned heads among MEN readers. Weekday rates start at £4 per hour, while weekend parking will set you back at least £7 an hour at the Trafford Centre.
Note.
- Parking does seem expensive to me, at upwards of £4 per hour, but then I use a bus or the Underground for free with my Freedom Pass, when I go shopping.
- Doesn’t Manchester have a pass system for older people?
- By the way, MEN is a reference to the Manchester Evening News, from where the article was taken. Surely, the Echo can generate its own copy!
- But then shopping is such a chore anyway.
I must admit, that I now prefer to my food shopping on Ocado, as it is reliable and it is all done by 07:30 on Friday.
The Mancunians are not impressed with this at all. I gather the bits where you have to pay are near the very expensive shops; the ones the local millionaires shop in. I am certainly nowhere near being a millionaires. but I do usually park near some of those places so I dont have to scoot fso far – and sometimes I use one TC scooters, so wont be able to do that. I am currently not well enough to leave the house, or to drive, so ALL my christmas shopping is being bought online.
I suspect fewer people will go to the Trafford Centre now – it depends on how far away from the shops the free parking spaces are.

I don’t like the Trafford Centre. It has a strange attitude unlike other big shopping centres in the North.
But then I do very little shopping these days outside the big M & S and do most of my food shopping on Ocado.
Ocado’s one problem, is they don’t always substitute gluten-free for gluten-free. But as today, they’ll accept the wrong sub back!

I do like the Trafford Centre, It is very easy for me to get to, and much easier for me to navigate than theCity Centre. On the whole the staff are very disability aware, apart from M&S who are really really bad on that in all their stores that I have ever been in. Iti s very easy to find myself and my scooter hemmed in my clothes rails! Their John Lewis sells fabric, which my local one in Cheadle no longer does.
When my girls were teenagers we would often go in the evening for a mooch and a pizza – they were likely to open up about whatever was on their mind as we walked around. At present, I am not really well enough to go anywhere, except medical appointments.
There were a lot of shops that I liked as well. So I hope it doesn’t close down as a result of this. Since I posted yesterday that a LOT of household names shop there, and by being able to park in a separate area they may be less likely to get mobbed by fans. I have seen it happen. My girls have brought up that this is unacceptable because household lanes are entitled to their privacy. I was really proud of them – this was years ago they were children. We were in McDonalds as a treat, and we went upstairs as we always did. Part of the upstairs was partitioned off by the staff, and behind there was young couple in the far corner of that area. They were not particularly hiding, and my girls watched every episode of the soap opera they were in, and had seen them in the panto which was why they were in Stockport. And my daughters both said they hope that Jason and Kylie were able to enjoy their burger in peace and that people wouldnt mob them. They were massive fan of theirs and I sure would have loved an autograph but they understood.
