Nick “Loophole” Freeman On Chris Huhne

Nick Freeman aka Mr. Loophole has just pronounced on the Chris Huhne case on BBC Radio 5.

He said that in 2003, there was probably all sorts of errors in the summons and he could probably have got Huhne found not guilty.

You could say that he would say that wouldn’t he, but it does appear he usually gets his clients the result they want.

Perhaps, though Huhne didn’t want to employ a solicitor, who went to Uppingham School and whose father was in retail.

Should Huhne And Pryce Go To Jail?

This stupid case, which quite frankly is all about seeing, who can be the nastiest to the other, has cost the taxpayer enough.

Obviously, the case is serious, but equally so, they are unlikely to cause any harm to anybody else, if they didn’t go to jail.

So they are a classic case for an alternative punishment.

Perhaps they should be sentenced to a certain amount of time, in something like a bail hostel, where they had to do the cooking and cleaning.  Where of course, they had to stay in each night. Perhaps they should also be made to share a room to save money.

It could even be broadcast live on Channel 5.

Rape Is Acceptable If It’s Within The Socialist Workers Party

This seems to be the message from several reports this morning, including this one in the Guardian.

Let’s face it rape and I would include threats and violence as well, is never acceptable in any circumstances.

The Times says that many have resigned from the Socialist Workers Party. Hopefully, they’ll be the first of nearly everybody who leaves.

Sensible Banking Advice From Paul Lewis

Radio 4’s money expert, Paul Lewis, has just said this in the wake of more banking problems from RBS and Natworst.

Make sure your girlfriend or boyfriend uses a different bank to yourself.

Now there’s a question for on-line dating sites!

RBS Show Their Standard Of Customer Service Again

Yet again RBS and its subsidiary, NatWorst, have stopped customers from accessing their money, as is reported here on the BBC. They had a similar computer disaster last year.

I’m actually surprised that they’ve still got any customers left to annoy!

Sir Mervyn Suggests Splitting RBS

This is the gist of a story on the BBC’s web site. It’s an idea that might work, although I’m still in favour of liquidating all of the Royal Bank of UK Taxpayers.

On the other hand we could always use it as Danegeld to make unwanted immigrants go home, by giving them shares on condition they went away.

Now there’s an idea for UKIP!

It would solve the problems of immigration and RBS at the same time.

The Personal Touch From Sir Mervyn

This story reported on the BBC, is a good one, as it shows the tensions between the Bank of England and the so-called retail banks well. The guy who wanted to buy a van, sums up the banks as follows.

But Mike Benson is unimpressed, and is thinking of turning to other lending schemes which do not involve banks, like peer-to-peer lenders.

“There will come a point when we don’t need the banks. And sayonara to the banks!”

That is why he eventually decided to buy his van with his own cash.

I wonder if any of the peer-to-peer lenders have contacted him or as they tend to be low profile, he’s contacted any himself!

Sir Mervyn’s letter may be typical of the Bank of England.  I once wrote to another director, who was writing a report on a particular subject.  Not only did he reply, but he put some of my thoughts in the report and when it was published I received a copy, which acknowledged my contribution in an Appendix, along with all the others who’d done so.

Would you have got that response from Lloyds, Barclays or RBS?

Justin Bieber Forgets That Customers Are Important

I don’t know much about Justin Bieber and his music, except that a lot of his fans are quite young.

So to turn up last night two hours late as is reported here on the BBC, is inexcusable.

A Clever Funding Route From Huddersfield University

Huddersfield University has teamed up with peer-to-peer lender; Funding Circle to create an interesting route to finance and develop small businesses.  It is described in this article. These paragraphs sum up the essence of the scheme.

Known as the Business Lending Partnership, Funding Circle’s recently-announced scheme alongside the University of Huddersfield has set a precedent for commercial and alternative lenders to start providing capital for non-traditional institutions.

Using Funding Circle, the university will lend an initial tranche of £100,000 to small businesses across the UK. The initiative seeks to support SME pioneers of the present and future, with all interest earned by the university’s investments to be put towards student scholarships for the University’s ‘Enterprise Development’ degree. Over the next five years, it is expected that more than 200 students from socially deprived backgrounds will gain access to the course.

Both Funding Circle and the university will also develop a series of seminars and internship opportunities with borrowers to ensure that the upcoming generation of business leaders can gain hands-on experience with flourishing British businesses as part of their degrees.

Obviously, not all partnerships will use the same model, but Huddersfield University and Funding Circle have used a clever model that can be cloned and/or adapted for other partnerships.

It will be interesting to see the nature of partnerships that develop in the next few years.

More Trouble For NatWorst

Just when you thought, the constituent banks of the Royal Bank of UK Taxpayers might be getting a bit better, this story comes along.

The jewellery may only be worth £20,000 or so, but would you trust NatWorst with anything of value?

I wouldn’t!  But then I have nothing of value, that I would miss!
