Where’s The Beard News?

As a beard wearer for fifty years, I wonder if Harry will be hirsute tomorrow, like his great-great-grandfather, George V, was at his wedding.

This article in The Independent discusses the question.

It says this.

  • Beards are not allowed with Army dress uniforms.
  • The Queen is not a fan of beards.

But Harry is a Spencer, and there will be independent thought!

The Advantage Of A Full Beard

My bathroom in Pensionat Udden was shared.

This was no disadvantage for me, as all I need in the morning is a shower, a clean of my teeth and a good scratch of my face to be ready for the day.

However, it would all have been different, if I’d had to have a shave every morning.

But of course with a full beard, I don’t!

The Beard Liberation Front Gives A Dispensation To Trim

I like this story about the Beard Liberation Front from the Standard. Here’s the first paragraph.

The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has announced that for the first time in its history it is permitting supporters to trim their beards due to the extremely hot weather.

I sympathise and am seriously thinking of getting rid of my nearly fifty year old member of my family. I did it once about thirty years ago and I immediately grew it back again. Mainly, I think because of complaints from C.  In fact, I don’t think my youngest son, ever saw me without a beard and my middle son, doesn’t ever remember me without one. I certainly grew it before he was born.

Alternatively, I could write to Monty Panesar to see if he has any tips for beard wearers in hot weather. It’s a subject that Sikhs probably know a lot more about than most.

Beckham’s Beard

David Beckham had grown a beard for the latest England game.  He was asked if it was a new fashion statement or campaign.

He game the honest answer that ‘He was just too lazy to shave!’

That’s why I’ve had a beard for over forty years.  I don’t think my youngest son, who is 37, has ever seen me without one!

My beard once featured in a letter to the PM program on Radio 4.
