Custom House Station – 18th December 2014
I took these pictures today.
Note that the bridge that will link the station to the Excel Exhibition Centre has now been positioned.
Custom House Is Looking Like A Station
The combined Crossrail/DLR station at Custom House grows every week.
It’s now beginning to look like a station and you can see how it will connect to the Docklands Light Railway.
I have a feeling, that when Crossrail opens, this station will get a high rating.
As it is built in a factory, the engineers have told me, that the quality of the concrete is excellent.
Crossrail As A Tourist Attraction
Today, I took the Docklands Light Railway to Custom House station to see progress and then came back to see the works at Canary Wharf station.
In one of the pictures of Custom House station, you can just see the portals for the Conaught Tunnel. This was a particularly challenging rebuild of an old Victorian tunnel, which was one of the subjects covered in the BBC documentary; Fifteen Billion Pound Railway.
One thing I was trying to see, was one of the trees they are planting in the gardens on top of the station, that are mentioned in this article in the Wharf.
There seemed to be others looking around and now that you can walk from Poplar DLR station over the bridge at Bank Street, there are better opportunities for looking at the sites.
Custom House Station Is Starting To Look Like One
The new Crossrail station at Custom House is started to look like a station.
It is being built in the clean environment of a factory near Sheffield and the quality of the concrete shines through.
On a bus recently, I talked to a young lady, who is involved in the production of this station and she said we’ll be seeing a lot more of these factory-produced Lego-like buildings in the future.
More Assembled Concrete At Custom House Station
Every time I go to have a look at the new Custom House Station for Crossrail, there is a lot of evidence of progress.
If they do organise a site visit in Open House, this could be one to view.
The Station Is Rising At Custom House Station
Some of the supports for the Crossrail station at Custom House have now been erected.
I met two Laing O’Rourke engineers, who were working on the project on the bridge and they said that in three months, a lot of the station will have been assembled.
They also said that the finish of the concrete was much better having been built in a factory than if it had been made on site.
Custom House Station Gets Ready For The Flat Pack Station
There’s been a lot of preparation at Custom House station for the arrival of the flat pack Crossrail station.
The most striking feature is a bridge over the site to allow pedestrians to get round it. It looks like it has a temporary lift. That is really something, as many stations don’t have any lifts at all.
Things Are Happening At Custom House Station
The area, where the new Custom House Crossrail station is to be constructed has been sealed off and bypassed by a pedestrian bridge.

Things Are Happening At Custom House Station
The station is being constructed in Sheffield and should start to arrive soon.
Getting Ready For The Flat Pack Station
Custom House station on Crossrail has been described as the flat-pack station, like in this article in the Standard. Here’s the first paragraph.
A £35 million “flatpack” station for Crossrail is being built hundreds of miles from London in a first for the rail industry.
The new station for Custom House is taking shape in a factory near Sheffield, pictured left, before being transported to London for assembly in 2015.
The question has to be asked, if they will be bringing the station to London by train.
The pictures show the state of the site, with lots of work going on.
If we can buy flat pack furniture from IKEA and their ilk, why can’t Crossrail use similar suppliers?
Custom House Station – 25th April 2013
It does appear that the site clearance is well under way at the new Custom House Station on Crossrail.
I have now tagged all of these posts with Custom House Station.
