An Extra Well-Respected Supporter
In front of me was an unusual supporter. Trigger is a flat-coated retreiver and a guide dog.
Needless to say Trigger behaved himself , but he did show more interest in the pies at half-time, than the football.
I did have a chat with his owner and he said that the Emirates was the best stadium for guide-dogs. They even provide bowls and toilet area.
Surely we can’t let Arsenal get all the plaudits!
Disabled Thinking
I am by no means disabled, but I am starting to take notice of stories about disabilities. This report about Muslim bus and taxi drivers refusing to take guide dogs got my sttention. Interestingly, when I go to Addenbrookes, I often see a guide dog in training, as obviously the hospital is a difficult environment, with crowds and trolleys everywhere. No-one seems to object there.
Returning to the public transport issue, it is against the law to not take someone with a guide dog. Perhaps, we need a few prosecutions to make sure the law is obeyed.
But it is not all bad news, as Leicestershire now allows guide dogs in training and their trainers to go free according to this report.
I should say that although, I’m pro-dog, you have to make sure your dog behaves properly. I’d also like to see those that keep nasty breeds and use them to intimidate are prosecuted as well.
A Coloured Police Horse
I was walking around the City of London last week and saw a coloured police horse. Coloured in the UK and Ireland includes both piebalds and skewbalds.
It’s funny, but years ago you never saw big coloured horses, except for those with perhaps a lot of Shire in them. Now there are quite a few and I suppose it wasn’t surprising that one would be used by the Police. This report in Horse and Hound says that the City of London Police horse is called Ken and is a skewbald Irish Draught.
There is a link here to another horse in the Merseyside Police. Their horse came from Ireland and is actually tri-coloured. I’ve owned a tri-coloured English Setter, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tri-coloured horse.
How to Groom a Basset Hound
These pictures show how amenable my basset is to a touch of grooming from my secretary/stud manager/general factotum etc.
French Dog on a French Seat on a French TGV
I took this picture of a poodle on the TGV.
It went all the way from Nice to Lille.
Two Dogs
I reorganised the living room and brought a small Indian rug in front of the television. It has been invaded.
The Staffy is my son’s. The basset despite being female or possibly because of it is in charge.
Note that the basset has one brown and one blue eye.
Do Dogs Work on a 23 Hour Day?
My housekeeper feeds the dogs at about mid-day.
So if I go anywhere near the kitchen from about eleven in the morning at the weekend, they are there staring wistfully at me, as if they haven’t eaten for months.
My Basset and Cat
This picture shows my basset hound and my cat.
As you can see, they are friends. But then the cat is half-Abyssinian.
