Over The River For A Tea And An Ice Cream
I walked over the footbridge on Fulham Railway Bridge, where I got a of tea and an icre cream in the Carluccio’s on the south bank.
It’s rather a large cafe and it sits right on the river. Their web site describes it like this.
Located on the riverfront, east of Putney Bridge and a minute from the High Street, the caffé boasts a huge riverfront terrace for sunny days.
I wouldn’t disagree and it would be a good pit stop on a walk by the river in the area. Perhaps, you might start at Putney Bridge station and walk across the railway bridge.
HMS Bulwark At Greenwich
HMS Bulwark is in Greenwich to mark the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines.
Lsrge ships are always impressive on London’s river.
Open Wide For Gladys
They announced on BBC London local news that Tower Bridge will open twice today at 11:15 and 13:00. So I looked it up on the Internet here.
It’s a sailing barge called Gladys going in and out.
An Historic Station On The Overground
Wapping station on the Overground is more or less unique. It is built into the access shaft that was used to build the Thames Tunnel, so must in some ways be the railway station in the world, with the oldest structure or building. It certainly has lots of brickwork and other interesting structures.
It’s also a good place to go to see trains going through the Thames Tunnel.
I sometimes wonder, what the well-known resident of Wapping, Alf Garnett would have thought of the Overground. Compared to the 1960s, the journey that Alf would take from Wapping to Upton Park to see West Ham United, is the same, but he would probably be complaining about the new trains on both lines, where you can walk from one end to the other.
A Walk Along The Thames
One of the great things about the River Thames in London, is that for most of its route, you can walk along the banks, using the Thames Path.
Today, was rather cold, but I felt I needed a walk, so I walked along the north bank of the Thames from London Bridge to Wapping, with a diversion into St.Katherine’s Dock, where I had a cup of tea and a lovely salmon salad for just over six pounds.
I took these pictures along the route.
Next time, I might walk as far as Greenwich and then cross using the foot tunnel, before coming back along the other bank.
Over The Cable Car In The Sun
I haven’t been over the Emirates Air Line for some time, but I’m glad I did today.
The visibility was pretty good, although hopefully, I’ll find another cold and sunny day when it is better.
Given the right day, it surely is one of the best camera platforms in a city.
It also helped that I caught the cable car at a quiet Sunday morning. This could have been, because many were expecting bad weather and just didn’t go! But remember it opens early in the morning and even starts at 09:00 on a Sunday. So on the right day weatherwise, get there early and choose your time. I got a cabin to myself by being lucky!
One Of The Few Clocks In London
There are very few clocks in London. But this one on St. Pauls is very visible.

One Of The Few Clocks In London
Except for Big Ben and the clock on Shell-Mex House, it must be one of the few visible from the river.
The Beach At Wapping
In the sun on Friday, I went for a walk by the river.

The Beach At Wapping
It was a surprising large and clean beach at Wapping.
Two Capital Ships In The Pool Of London
I then moved upriver to the Pool of London, where HMS Edinburgh had moored alongside HMS Belfast.
The Royal Navy is present in London for the celebrations of the seventieth anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. There’s more about the celebrations here on the Royal Navy website.
To Greenwich Under The River
I’d never been through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel, when I used it to get from Island Gardens station on the DLR to Greenwich Pier, so I could get pictures of HMS Illustrious.
As the pictures show, I shared the lifts and the tunnel with a party of extremely well-behaved Primary School children. I mentioned to the teacher in charge, that I’m surprised Health and Safety let children into the tunnel. She said things were getting better and the children loved using the tunnel.
