Relief

I can’t remember much about my own wedding to C.  I can remember my old Scout Master from years before appearing before the service and congratulating me, as he had been something to do with the previous one at the church.  You used to queue up in those days.

I can also remember rushing back to the pub afterwards for the reception and C being desperate for a drink.  Eunice, the barmaid, I’d worked with in the pub for a couple of years, knew that C didn’t want anything alcoholic, but a long glass of water,. It came with ,lots of ice too!

In some ways a few hours later we were all relieved it was all over. And there hadn’t been any hitches or upsets.

I suspect that is the feeling going round the Palace and the centre of London now!

Let’s hope the calm to what some doom mongers predicted is a good omen for the future.  And not just for William and Kate, but for us all!

Dogs Will Be Dogs

Apparently, one of the sniffer dogs went amok and ate a photographer’s sandwiches.

Weddings And Rain

When C and I got married in 1968, it was a summer of terrible weather.  We had the only fine Saturday in about three months, with lots of sunshine.  One of C’s friends got married the next weekend and their much more expensive wedding was a complete washout.

So I was rather pleased this morning, that they’ve just announced that come what may, the happy couple will return from the Abbey in an open carriage.

After all, a little bit of rain won’t hurt them!

Discount from a Dutch Flower Company

I’ve just been offered a discount from a Dutch flower company, because we have a royal wedding.  Are the Dutch getting excited too?

What’s Going On?

I happened to pass Westminster Abbey this morning on the top of a 24 bus.

This is the video I took.

What’s going on?

The Royal Family was Well-Advised

The Queen as we all know finds that nearly all her travels or events are accompanied by extreme weather. But as least her family seems to have been well-advised in their choice of date for the Royal Wedding.  The forecast is showing a grey morning with perhaps a shower, but it all clears up for the ceremoney and the ceremonials afterwards.

You can also argue, that their choice of date has been good for the Americans.  It seems most of them are over here and have thus missed some of the worst and most dangerous storms in living memory in the Southern States.

My Views on the Royal Wedding

I have been accused of not being in favour of the Royal Wedding.  I have put up the occasional post, but not many.

Admittedly, I did send this message to a radio station that asked what you were doing instead of the Royal Wedding.

I’m going to IKEA and then to Waitrose tomorrow.

Don’t get me wrong, as I had forty years of marriage to a wonderful woman, so I wish the happy couple all the best. But then I do that to everybody, who gets married.

It’s Bad Friday Today

I’ve always hated Bank Holidays.  I can remember as a child, that unless there was football at White Hart Lane, I’d generally be left to my own devices.  At least when my father had his print works, we’d generally go down there and do something.  You can never have said he didn’t have a work ethic.

When C  and I had the children at home, it wasn’t as boring, as usually we’d find something to do.  After the kids had left, we’d often go racing or shopping at somewhere like Bluewater. But generally we’d arrange to be away, as after all everything is crowded.  Although on one memorable Bank Holiday with sunshine everywhere, we did decide to go to the Norfolk Coast with the dogs for a swim for her and perhaps a paddle for me.  But we got sea-fog and were back home by one after one of the most miserable Bank Holidays we ever spent.

Today, I’ve nothing planned and will probably go for a walk or to a museum or art gallery.  It’s the same on Saturday and Sunday.  But on Monday, I’m off to Swansea to see Ipswich.  But after last night’s disaster at Portman Road, that is unlikely to be a happy experience.

And what with the Royal Wedding and May Day coming up, this few next weeks has the impression, that it is not going to be very fulfilling. But saying that I do have friends coming for the wedding.

Damned If He Does and Damned If He Doesn’t!

There are reports questioning what David Cameron will be wearing to the Royal Wedding. It looks like he will break with tradition and not wear a tailcoat.

My view is that as the Palace has said that you can wear either morning dress or a lounge suit, the decision is up to him.

It should not be determined by any of the press on any side of the political spectrum.

In some ways, I wonder if he’s hoping that something comes up and he can’t go!

PeacePlayers International

I’d never heard of this group, until I read William and Kate’s wedding list in the papers.

They are definitely worth supporting.

It does appear though that the royal couple have had the right idea over their gift list.

I was also impressed by his speech in Christchurch.
