Why I Chose My Bank
I did this because it is in a convenient place in the High Street and I’d heard from people I trust, that the on-line banking worked well.
I also chose it because, I didn’t get too much spam purporting to be from the bank trying to get me to login to a fake site. This cut the chances of getting fooled.
Except fot two e-mails in the last week, which I knew to be very fake, as they were so obvious and lacked security check information, this is still the case.
But there are banks out there, for which I still get masses of phishing spam. I immediately delete them, as I have no account at the bank, so they must be crooked, especially as they go to undisclosed-recipients, which is a sure sign of fraud.
So are these banks ignoring these messages, which are an affront to their good name and a threat to their and their customers security?
There is a Lot of it About!
My page on NetTemps Inc, is just a repost of a spam e-mail I received. But yesterday it had 404 hits, so there must be thousands of these scam e-mails going around the web and people are doing the sensible thing and using Google to find the truth.
Look at this web site, where someone turns the tables on this type of scam. He’s just having fun and it’s a very interesting way to waste the criminals time. But as he says, he’s had death threats, so don’t do it yourself.
A Good Old-Fashioned Con
We complain about scams, but this one has little to do with the Internet. It just shows that there is at least one born every minute. There is so much truth in the old saying, that if something is to goog to be true, it probably is!

My Overdaft Has Been Suspended
I received this scam from someone claiming to be Egg. I also received it four times. And overdraft was spelt the same in each. I don’t have an overdaft. but I suspect they are!
Note that a link in the e-mail points to a German web site. Perhapd, it’s to unsettle English fans before tomorrow. I don’t think it was sent by Germans though, as all the ones I know can spell better than that!
Dear Valued Egg Customer
Due to a recent credit limit check on your Egg Card, we have cancelled your overdaft until further noticed. Logon below to ammend your Egg Card and reactivate your account.
Failure to do this within 24hrs will lead to your online access been suspended.

Royal Dutch Shell – Service to Humanity
Have nothing to do with this? – I’ve just had four – One to each of the e-mail addreses that used to be on my web site – So someone has bought a mailing list from a scammer. They all came from an e-mail address at ahs.state.vt.us. Sounds like something to do with Vermont! It is this web site that looks totally kosher to me.

Stoph Schmitz
This seems to be a new line in scams. Ignore it or report it to your local police. Note the +4470 number which is high cost and diverts to somewhere unsavoury. Why don’t OFCOM ban the use of these numbers except by properly checked companies and individuals?
stoph Schmitz Our company is a trading firm specializing in repairs and retail distribution of electrical products within the United Kingdom and Wales.
We want to replace one of our Directors due to a problem he currently has with the Home office to save the company an embarrasment. If we are able to reach a meaningful agreement with you on your signifying your interest, I will then explain more to you.
This is all I can say for now but it is important that I mention that the Director stands a chance of being deported back to Rwanda from England and has agreed that he is willing to work out a deal whereby he will hand over his shares in the company through a mutual agreement to you, to be redeemed at a later stage and this is a legitimate transaction.
You will be compensated with 14 percent for management fees, kindly write back and I will provide further instructions. I am available via email or telephone: +44-7024045640 and fax: +44 844 774 5598 I will write you back on reading your email or recieving your call or fax.
Finally, please note that this must be concluded in a matter of weeks.
Yours Sincerely,

It might well have been sent out of China. So next time you think about purchasing something cheap made by them, think about the other things they do. Remember too, that they still have the death penalty, but obviously not for spam.
Note too, that if you ring the number, it may cost you a fortune. That’s how they make money!
