Butler Sheba Cutlery
When we married in 1968, we didn’t have much, but we did purchase a rather extravagant set of Butler Sheba cutlery. There is very little information about the cutlery on the Internet, except for this small piece in the Design 1965 Journal.
Sheba Cutlery
They are a classic sixties design that was made in Sheffield. The handles are actually a plastic called Delrin from DuPont.
I still use them everyday and they have always been washed in the dishwasher.
If anybody has any cutlery of this design in good nick, I might be pleased to purchase them.

It’s very easy to use, despite the odd looking shape. One of the companies I started, three out of the four founders had that cutlery. The one we fell out with, didn’t. Perhaps, there is a moral there!

Hi there – you have mentioned being interested in sheba cutlery. I have eight boxed sets of seven pieces each, plus two boxed sets of four serving spoons. I too have a set of 6 place settings of Sheba cutlery and have also tried to source extra sets to buy but without success. Like the AnonW we purchased them when we were married 1966 and they are still being used today – a wonderful purchase and would love to be able to purchase 2 further sets.

I’m not, as I find it so good. In some ways it’s a bit difficult to use a fork with my left hand after the stroke, but it’s good practice to get it working again.

I have a 44 piece boxed set which I found in my dad’s loft when he died recently. It’s hardly been used, in fact some of the soup spoons still have the plastic on them. I will part with them if you are interested

Not all the pieces are perfect, i.e. very small cracks in some handles, but these are not noticeable. We haven’t used them for a long time and are willing to sell them. Can send a photo. I was boght a set for my 21st birthday in 1973. Its still going strong and I love using it. The only damage has been to a dinner knife that came out of its delfin sheath. I too would be interested in buying more. jhandsjones@aol.com

Sorry! But you’re not having many of mine. It must be over 40 years old and still going strong. It was a wedding present to my late wife and myself from ourselves. I augmented it about ten or twenty years afterwards, by buying a large canteen in Harrods sale.

My friend was clearing out his parent’s house and I was helping him. When I went to put some stuff in the dustbin I heard a rattling sound and saw a large carrier bag. Being a nosey person, I investigated and found the Sheba cutlery. My friend didn’t want it so now I have an 8 person collection of teaspoons, soup spoons, dessert spoons, fish forks, main forks, triangle knives, smooth knives, other knives, cake slice and salad servers. I love it, what a find!

It really shows how well it was made. I have quite a bit and I use a subset of four for everyday. It’s gone in the dishwasher every day for forty years now. Although in my current house, the second-hand dishwaster is so tired and crap, I wash them now by hand, as it’s quicker and better.
I’m 65 now and they’ll outlive me by many years.
And of course they were made in Sheffield, just like Jessica Ennis. she could come and use them anytime.

i have a set of 6 steak knives, 6 forks.. never used.. still in original box.. They are the same design (Sheba) with black handles as in the picture above.

Mine have been used for nearly fifty years! They have work remarkably well, despite many years in the dishwasher.
