The Bigger They Are!!!

I’m not a vindictive person, but I do get a certain amont of pleasure, when I see certain rich men’s toys not performing as they could!

So to see Manchester City losing to Poznan in Poland tonight strengthens my belief that money never buys you what you think it should.

Let’s hope the Poles hang on!

They will now as they’ve just scored a third goal!

We all know that it’s the players they’ve bought, but how long before they fire the manager?

The Things You Find When You Turn Out!

C’s father was a bit of a collector and I know she was rather annoyed when her mother threw away a lot of his things, when he died.

However, I’ve just been going through some of his old books, as I really don’t want to take them with me when I move.

There were a few gems.

First editions of Winnie the Pooh and Now We Are Six! They are in good condition, but sadly there is no dust jacket on either.

First editions of five Neville Shute books including Requiem for a Wren!

First editions of two Hornblower books.

I’m now searching the rest!

Zopa and America

In some ways, Zopa illustrates the United States’ problems.

Zopa is an innovative financial company and you’ve have thought it would have gone down well, given the country’s history with credit unions.

But no!  The legislators made it impossible for the company to operate in the same way as in the UK. Read Zopa’s view on this. It may have been a bad way to launch in the United States, but another company called Prosper doing peer-to-peer lending also had troubles with the regulators.

You can read what you like into all that, but I can’t help feeling that the US still gives the banks too much power to squash possible threats.

Has Obama Blown It?

I was optimistic, when Barack Obama became United States President, but after the setback in the mid-term elections has he blown it and given the initiative to the Republicans and especially the Mad Hatters.

Barack Obama had a lot of goodwill when he was elected, but his rather lacklustre performance since hasn’t done him any favours.

Some of his policies, like the closure of Guantanamo and health care, may have been laudable, but they just don’t appeal to many Americans, who have attitudes that are too far to the right for my liking.

I can’t help feeling that the United States is going to have a large fall, when the money is just not there anymore. The Republicans are now saying that they will defeat Obama’s Climate Change Bill as the Mad Hatters believe that global warming doesn’t exist and we should all carry on partying.

Nero only let Rome burn, but the Mad Hatters want to burn the world!

Years ago, the world needed American products.  Now, those products come from everywhere and even those hi-tech ones are now coming from the other developed countries. And to make matters worse, some of their best brains are developing their new companies in Europe and the Far East.

Zopa Approaches 500,000 Members

Zopa has announced that they are approaching half a million members.

That to me is an astonishing figure, considering they’ve only been going for a few years.

Obviously, some are borrowers and some are lenders.
