An Unusual Hospital Appointment
I have just been sent an appointment from the local hospital for a routine echocardiogram.
What is unusual is that the appointment is for 18:40!
I am 73 and I’ve never had an appointment at a hospital outside of the normal working day.
How unusual?
I suppose it’s just that the hospital is catching up on work, delayed by the covids.
A great many hospitals now have the various departments such as cardiology, x-ray, physio etc now run from 7.00 in the morning until 8 or later at night. It is so that people have a wide range of choice of appointments, staff have more of a choice about hours, and backlogs of patients are prevented – this has been going on up here for a long time now. I know that a lot of radiotherapy patients would choose to come for their radiotherapy before they went on to work, or on their way home from work.
