Gift-Wrapping Service On Board LNER Trains This Christmas
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on Rail Advent.
This article may seem a bit like an April Fool.
But the publicity might just get more people to travel by train.

What this blog will eventually be about I do not know.
But it will be about how I’m coping with the loss of my wife and son to cancer in recent years and how I manage with being a coeliac and recovering from a stroke. It will be about travel, sport, engineering, food, art, computers, large projects and London, that are some of the passions that fill my life.
And hopefully, it will get rid of the lonely times, from which I still suffer.
Why Anonymous? That’s how you feel at times.
I noticed that the service is only provided on trains TO Scotland. Presumably too little demand in the other direction….

I must admit on my many journeys to Scotland, I’ve set next to many Scots going home for a party.
Could it be that the shopping is better round King’s Cross, than it is around Waverley?

My daughter went up to London yesterday, on the tube I think, she said that the train was deserted and so was the city centre.

I think Londoners are keeping their heads down! I do wonder whether my parents generation learned this habit because of the V1 and V2 in the war. They certainly respond differently to the rest of the country. The city was very quiet after the 7/7 bombings. Hackney was busy on Monday.

We havent ventured into Manchester to see how crowded it is – I used to go shopping there fairly often, or to exhibitions and events. But haven’t been up since before the pandemic, same with Trafford Centre. I did however go to Waitrose, just for some of the frozen Gluten Free Egg Custard tarts they sell – I have to drive past to get to the nicer post office. So I popped in and got some of the tarts for the freezer a gluten free Christmas Cake and a poinsettia, and it was very busy. As was the post office. I had lunch yesterday with a friend who is being as careful as I am at a very trusted cafe – cafe was pretty empty. But I doubt I will go out again now until the new year, with the way the infection rate is soaring up here.
