Evolyn To Launch Paris To London Route In Competition With Eurostar

The title of this post, is the same as that as this article on Rail Technology Magazine.

These first two paragraphs outline the plan.

A company aiming to operate services through the Channel Tunnel in competition with Eurostar has agreed to purchase 12 trains, it said.

Evolyn has stated that it is ready to invest £1 billion in its bid to start cross-Channel rail services in 2025.

It looks like the order will go to Alstom.

It will be interesting to see what sort of product is offered.

  1. Perhaps the aim is to run a low-cost, no-frills Lumo-style service – but is it going to get track access? Both St Pancras and Gare du Nord are at the limit for the number of passengers they can handle, so I can’t see where the extra station and track capacity will come from. If they hadn’t turned the old Eurostar facilities at Waterloo into a shopping mall that might have been an option, though hardly an ideal one. I don’t suppose there are appropriate facilities to make it possible to start services at Stratford or Ebbsfleet. What a pity this country’s leaders aren’t capable of long-term infrastructure planning!

    • Perhaps, they’re using some elastic definitions of London and Paris like Ryanair do?

  2. Alstom have issued a clarification on their position https://www.alstom.com/press-releases-news/2023/10/13102023-alstom-statement-evolyn-press-release-issued-october-11

I agree with balhamist. I can’t see this getting anywhere without more passenger handling facilities, and not just at St P; Nord needs it too.
