Lumo Launches A 0.5% Beer For The New Year In Partnership With A Newcastle Brewing Company
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on the Cumberland Gazette.
This is the sub-heading.
Lumo has launches a locally-sourced, low-alcohol beer in partnership with Newcastle’s Donzoko Brewing Company to be available on services between Edinburgh and London.
These two paragraphs add a bit more detail.
Big Nothing 0.5% will be available in time for the new year, aimed towards those taking part in giving up alcohol for Dry January. The addition is part of Lumo’s commitment to providing locally sourced onboard options as part of the catering offer on its services on the East Coast route.
The release of the drink comes after the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) reported a 45% increase in alcohol-related incidents during the festive period last year.
I shall be trying some of this beer next time I travel on Lumo.
Is this beer gluten free?

I think because of the law, you can only only say a beer is gluten-free, if it has been properly tested comprehensively.
I suspect the only beer that that can be said to be low-alcohol and gluten-free is the Adnams 0.5 % Ghost Ship in cans, as it goes through the proper certification.
The beer that goes into the bottles does not go through the full certification, so it can’t say it’s gluten-free on the bottle, but it tastes the same and I’ve never been affected by it.
I have drunk hundreds of bottles of Adnams 0.5 % Ghost Ship and never had a reaction. But then, I am not an overly serious coeliac, who has a strong reaction to a small amount of gluten.
Recently, I had a full colon examination from both ends and they told me my gut had no gluten damage.
When I get hold of my first bottle of Donzoko, I’ll give it a thorough test and report here.

Excellent. I look forward to the review!
Incidentally I have been drinking Birmingham Brewing Company beers as all of their beers are gluten removed and < 20 ppm. I’m not coeliac, but gluten intolerant, and have had no ill effects from their beers. What’s nice is not only do they do a range of beer styles, but they also do a few alcohol free ones. I highly recommend ordering a case!
