Could Chelski End Up Fifth in the Premier League?

That’s where they are this morning and they look good to me in that position. Hopefully, the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Arsenal will keep them there!

Let’s hope so and perhaps Chelski’s dip in form will give Ipswich a chance in the FA Cup.

New Year Football is Going to be Fun

Over the last twodays, I have watched two of the best televised matches from the Premier League, that I’ve seen in a long time. On Sunday, Spurs beat Aston Villa at Villa Park by 2-1, playing with ten men for a lot of the match and scoring two of the best goals I’ve seen this season. Not to be outdone, their arch-rivals, Arsenal, took Chelsea apart by 3-1 last night.

Could the Premier League title be going to North London?  Remember as I said here, the year ends in one.

And then there is the small matters of Ipswich’s two cup ties; the two-legged one against Arsenal in the Carling Cup and the Third Round of the FA Cup against Chelsea.

I don’t hold out  much hope in the Carling Cup for Ipswich, but who knows what will happen at Stamford Bridge, when a demoralised Chelski face a fresh Ipswich side, who’ve haven’t played since the heart warming Leicester match.

The FA Cup is getting to be a great leveller, especially when mollycoddled millionaires come up against supposedly inferior, but more enthusiastic players, who want to prove they deserve their day in the limelight.

We live in interesting times.

An Extra Well-Respected Supporter

In front of me was an unusual supporter.  Trigger is a flat-coated retreiver and a guide dog.

Trigger at Crewe

Needless to say Trigger behaved himself , but he did show more interest in the pies at half-time, than the football.

I did have a chat with his owner and he said that the Emirates was the best stadium for guide-dogs.  They even provide bowls and toilet area.

Surely we can’t let Arsenal get all the plaudits!

Dynamite Comes in Small Parcels

What I like about football is that it is a game where all sorts and sizes can be poor, good, brilliant or truly great.  I have just watched Arsenal be trounced by Lionel Messi.  Lionel is two centimetres shorter than me at 1.69 metres!

Even as a one-time Spurs supporter in my youth, I had hoped that Arsenal had won this one.  But they couldn’t!

The Special One

They say what goes around comes around.

It certainly did last night, as a couple of years after he was sacked by Roman Abramovich at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho returned to triumph.  Not a bad result for a man, who used to be ridiculed as Booby Robson’s translator.  Perhaps, he learned a lot from the master.

Of the four major clubs of the past few years in England, Chelsea and Liverpool are the ones that seem to be showing the strain.  Could it be because they are the two who’ve tried to buy success more than Arsenal and Manchester United?  Or could it be that Chelsea are the two clubs with smaller stadia and hence a reduced cash flow?

We’ve not seen the last of Chelsea this season, but I’d be putting my money elsewhere if I was a betting man.
