The World From The Emirates Air-Line
I had actually gone over the cable-car to see if I could get a good picture of the cruise liner; The World. This was the best I got.
It has been reported that Greenwich is going to get a new berth for cruise ships, which will be nearer to the cable-car.
The Emirates Air-Line Wasn’t Very Busy
Early this morning, I went over the Emirates Air-Line
The picture shows the queues at Royal Victoria.
On the other hand the view was one of the best.
Note that the Shard is missing.
Riding The DLR To The Cable Car
On Sunday, I did my usual trip from Royal Victoria to North Greenwich on the Emirates Air-Line. I took these pictures as I progressed along the DLR to Royal Victoria Docks station.
There is a lot to see!
On any Sunday with good weather, it is an enjoyable trip to do a circular route.
I would start early, by going on the roof of One New Change for the amazing views of St. Paul’s.
Then a quick walk to Bank and take a DLR train to Royal Victoria station. You might not get one direct on a Sunday, so change at either Shadwell, Poplar or Canning Town.
The cable car is close by the DLR station and don’t forget to use an Oyster card to cross to the other side, as it’s cheaper and you don’t have to queue.
At North Greenwich there is quite a few places to eat by the O2 Arena.
You can continue in one of two ways. Either take the Jubilee line from North Greenwich station to Canary Wharf or take a bus to the centre of historic Maritime Greenwich.
If you take the second option, you can take another DLR train from Cutty Sark station to Canary Wharf.
Canary Wharf is a good place to eat lunch and also do some shopping, as a lot of the best shops are there.
After Canary Wharf, I take the Jubilee line, back to London Bridge station, where you can see The Shard, London’s forgotten cathedral; Southwark, Borough Market and the other attractions between London and Tower bridges.
Coming North On The Cable-Car
I usually traverse the cable-car from north to south, but on Sunday, I went the other way, as the DLR wasn’t running to Royal Victoria because of Crossrail works.
Afterwards, I walked to Canning Town station, took the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf for lunch.
Flying Solo On The Cable-Car
As I often do on a Sunday, I went over the Emirates Air-Line cable-car and then took the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf to have some late breakfast at Carluccio’s.
I got a gondola to myself, as the pictures show.
I wonder how long it takes before the rubbish recycling underneath the line is moved to a less obvious location.
Stratford Panorama From The Emirates Air-Line
The picture shows the Olympic Park from the Emirates Air-Line cable-car.
The mouth of the River Lee is in the foreground.
The Crossrail Spoil Conveyors At The Limmo Site
The pictures show the conveyors to take spoil away from the tunnels being dug from the site on the Limmo peninsular.
The pictures were of course taken from the Emirates Air-Line cable-car.
A Call From The Cable-Car
As I was alone on the Emirates Air-Line yesterday, I called a friend in The Netherlands.
I don’t suppose, I’m the only person, who’s done that. But try doing that in a tunnel under the Thames.
A Circular Journey In The Snow
Very often on a Sunday I go across the Emirates Air-Line cable car, have a tea, coffee or lunch somewhere and then return home by a different route.
Today with all the snow, was just too good to miss.
My route was to walk to Dalston Junction station and then get a train south to Shadwell. I then took the DLR from there to the cable car. I came back via Canary Wharf, where I had a cup of tea and the London Overground back to the start.
The only problem, was that visibility wasn’t that good, but it was what the cable-car is for. It must have felt pleased to be in the land of its birth; Austria.
Vermilion And Other Developments At Canning Town
Canning Town is on the up literally.
Vermilion and the other developments are just a stone’s throw from the excellent station, which I visited earlier.
You will notice Vermilion really stands out in pictures like these taken from the Emirates air-line.
