Victoria Park To The Olympic Park

I took these pictures as I walked yesterday.

It certainly is an easy way to go. I met a family, who had taken the Overground from Kew to Hackney Wick and were going into the Olympics, by the same way.

Again these pictures are dominated by the flowers.

A Night At The Athletics

I went to see the athletics at the Olympic Park last night.

It was a gold-less night, but at least others have repaired some of damage Gordon Brown did by selling off our gold reserves too cheaply.

The Park and stadium are magnificent and hopefully will remain so, unlike Athens, Montreal and Moscow, which are the only Olympic stadia, that I’ve visited. One of the lasting memories in my mind, will be the glorious flowers. In Athens, all that’s left is weeds.

In fact this post could be titled something like Trees, Flowers, Water and Steel with a Few Sporting Events Thrown In. Only the British and perhaps the Irish, Dutch, New Zealanders and a few others would say that the legacy for the Games needs to be another park. Especially in a city like London, which is already endowed with many large and magnificent parks.

On the other and there is nothing worse in life, than tending a garden.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them!

An Unusual Flower Container at Southfields Station

As I walked past it, I thought it contained herbs.

A Flower Tub at Southfields Station

On closer inspection it did and they were all labelled.

The Bluebells Are Out in Kew

The BBC has just said that the bluebells are out in Kew.  This is the earliest they have appeared since records began. No wonder I’ve had such a terrible time being boiled alive in this house, with all the sun we’ve had so far this year.

The Artificial Cannabis Factory

I like this story.

Tom Butler has been hiring artificial flowers to people for fifty years.  He was rather surprised when he got raided because someone had tipped off the police that all the luxuriant growth were cannabis plants.

On the other hand, the publicity about the story won’t be doing his business any harm!
