My Hotel In Geneva

I didn’t have a hotel, when I arrived in Geneva, so I just walked out of the station and tried the first I saw.

It was a design hotel, called the Hotel Christal.

There were the usual small design glitches, but I’d certainly stay there again, as it was so convenient for the station.

The thing that annoyed me was that the socket, didn’t take my standard European adaptor. It was a new French design, which looks to be incompatible with the rest of the continent.  In one excellent hotel I stayed in, there was a panel which accepted every possible plug.

I also found the coffee machine too clever for me. When will designers realise that those who buy their products have money.  And many who have money are retired with the odd health issue.

From Milan To Geneva

The train journey from Milan to Geneva goes through the lakes and mountains and the Simplon Tunnel.

It is a journey that must be one of the most spectacular in a train on a regular rather than a tourist service.

It is also pretty fast, as my journey took under four hours. It’s not expensive, as for the 17th November, you can book the same train for just £20 and First Class for £110. By comparison London to Newcastle on the same day at a similar time are showing at £60 and £90 respectively for a journey an hour shorter.

By The River Rhone And Lac Leman

You’re never far from water in Geneva.

I tried to get a picture of the sun creating a rainbow in the fountain, but I failed.

Note that I have called the lake Lac Leman. My father said that he lived in the city for some time, when he worked at the League of Nations. He may or may not have worked there, but he was particular, that it was called Lac Leman. According to a friend, locals always call it thus. In some ways my father was secretive about his past, but the more I find, the more his tales ring true.

Geneva’s Flower Clock

This is apparently famous.

I couldn’t get any good pictures as there were always masses of Asian tourists in front of it.

Around The Hotel

The hotel was close to the cathedral in the Old City and there were plenty of bars and restaurants.

The restaurant was just round the corner.

It was all very convenient.

An Ideal Place For A Clock

In the hotel, they had this clock on the reception desk.

I’ve never seen one like this before.

Note that it appears to be on a substantial chain!

Clear Naming Of Roads

Nearly every road in Geneva seemed to have a clear sign like this.

Clear Naming Of Roads

Clear Naming Of Roads

Coming from London, which has a similar policy, it annoys me, when I go places, where street names are non-existent.

It certainly made Geneva easy to navigate.

A Tangle Of Wires

I took this picture at a major traffic intersection in Geneva.

A Tangle Of Wires

I think it shows how in the future we’ll see more trams using battery technology and other wireless propulsion methods, like I saw in Seville.

Imagine sorting that mess out, if say it got torn down.

A Lost Bus!

This old bus was parked near the station in Geneva.

Bonnybridge appears to be near Falkirk in Scotland.
