Are Plimsoles On The Way Back?
At school in the 1950s we are wore plimsoles for gym. Just like these.
Except that ours were black and sometimes they had laces. I took the picture on the way back from Blockley. The feet actually belonged to a young lady from Poland, who gave permission for the picture to be taken.
A Bad Day On The Office
Or at least a pair of shoes from Office.
I hope she had a good limp home. The two parts were on either side of a pedestrian crossing.
Shoe Sizes
The very pregnant news mother, Kate Silverton, on BBC Breakfast, was complaining about getting stylish shoes for her size 9 feet.
As a man with size 6 feet, I have the same problem, but I’ve always found it possible to buy them in Newmarket. And they’re British made too!
My New Trainers
I got my new trainers on Friday from Runners Need.
I wore them all day yesterday in Bristol and in the end we had to walk all the way from Ashton Gate to Temple Meads, which took about thirty minutes.
This morning, I have no stiffness or soreness!
I’ve not had any cramps in bed either.
So perhaps everybody should get their trainers properly fitted.
How To Fit Trainers
I have been in need of a new pair of trainers or tennis shoes for some time. I’ve bought two pairs and they sit in my cupboard unworn, as they are so uncomfortable. My trouble is that I have small but wide feet.
I saw my physio this morning and he recommended going to Runners Need in Kings Cross, where you can try out your new shoes on a treadmill before you buy them.
I went and was impressed, as when the video they took of my feet was played back, I could see that my legs were straight and correct in the shoes that the assistant thought would be best for me. They actually didn’t have my proper size, so I’ll have to go back to get them, when they have got them in.
It would seem to me, that if you are buying a pair of shoes for running or walking, that this the way to do it. With my horse-racing experience, I know that this sort of analysis has been done with horses, to try to predict performance. Before you buy a horse to race, you would always trot it up and down to see that its action was correct.
Now I am not disabled, but I do have a slight balance problem after my stroke. There are also people who have got bad backs or need or have had hip or knee transplants. I felt it helped me and I could feel that the walking shoes I tried, which had a bit of support, were rather better than my worn out tennis shoes. So would others benefit?
Shoe Cleaning
I have expensive shoes. I always have done ever since I could afford them. Partly, it’s because my feet are small and fairly wide and size six shoes are difficult to find, but mainly it’s because I always try to dress well and good shoes don’t come cheap. You may be able to find a decent shirt in Marks, but decent shoes never!
I tend now to get my shoes in Busy Bee in Newmarket as there my size six are not the smallest. Jockeys have surprising consequences for others! I posted in an earlier blog how I bought a pair of John Spencer shoes there in February.
But I hate shoe cleaning and more than once I’ve ruined shoes by not cleaning them every time I’ve used them. My late wife always did that and when she died she had an immaculate collection of all the most expensive makes.
I still struggle to follow her example.
