Walking to Victoria Park

I picked up my paper and then walked through to the Kingsland Road, where I got on the towpath of the Regent’s Canal and headed east.

Unfortunately, my camera was low on power, so I couldn’t take any pictures. I will later in the year and they will be so much better with the sun.

Next time, I must, as it an interesting walk under the bridges with the last stretch smelling of woodsmoke from the heaters in the barges parked for the winter.

I emerged on Roman Road in Tower Hamlets, before taking a 277 bus back to the stop around the corner.

The last bit brought back memories, as my late son and his family used to live just round the corner. But I wouldn’t dwell on what might have been!

Am I Bothered?

Look at this picture of a Congestion Charge sign.

And this parking ticket machine.

But then look at this picture of the traffic as I approached the West End on one of the few means of transport still available to me, my feet.

Traffic in the West End

So am I bothered?  Not in the least, as I can still walk, use buses, the Underground and other trains and where it is more convenient or a cost saving, I can even use a black cab!

South From Tottenham Hale and Over the River Lee

Ever since I moved to West Suffolk and have been travelling to London, I’ve been fascinated by the view as the train goes over the marshes south of Tottenham Hale and over the River Lee, before disappearing amongst the houses, buildings and factories of East London.

So yesterday, I took a video from the train.

It looks a good place for a walk and there seem’s to be a propwe pub by the water.  But how do you get there?

Pedestrian Crossings

Before this last stroke, I rarely used the lights, as being a Londoner, jay-walking is a sport to be enjoyed.

But not any more!  I now push the button and wait.  Usually it works, but twice I’ve been run over by aggressive buggy pushers, just standing there watching the lights changing.

The Evil of Gravel

It seems to me that councils are increasingly setting nice gravel on paths.

Here’s some in Den Haag.

Gravel Path, Den Haag

It may look good, but try wheeling a case over it!
