The Hoax Call Rapper
This idiot is plaguing Manchester with hoax calls. He has made hunreds of calls and they cost the fire service about a thousand pounds a month.
Just like the thieves who stole the cables yesterday, perhaps we need an offence of endangering the lives of the general public, that has an effect.
A Real Marathon
Wimbledon had a match yesterday that had to be halted for the night at 59-59 in the fifth set. It is the longest match ever.
At least these two players have lasted longer than our under-performing players, of whom only Andy Murray lasted until the third day.
We complain about our footballers, but at least youngsters, like James Milner, Connor Wickham, Adam Johnson and many others are coming through the system with promise. Where are the tennis players in the same age group with a high level of talent? Also, if cricket, golf, rowing,sailing, cycling and many other sports can do it, why can’t tennis, especially, as they have more resources than most?
The First Welsh-Born Prime Minister Since Lloyd George
Julia Gillard has just become Australian Prime Minister, as Kevin Rudd has stood down. She was born in Barry in South Wales, so becomes the first Welsh-born Prime Minister since Lloyd George.
When will we have a foreign-born Prime Minister? We already have! He was Bonar Law, who was born in the crown colony of New Brunswick, which is now part of Canada.
A Suite of Planets
On Tuesday night, I noticed a planet in the western sky. It could have been Venus, but looking at the Internet, it possibly could have been Saturn. A bad star chart in a newspaper, indicated that it could have been Saturn.
So last night, I checked and got my Meade telescope out. I also found this entry on the Internet, which showed that the planet was indeed Venus. The chart shows that Saturn is above the moon, but also that Mars should be visible to the naked eye.
According to the entry about the planets, the rings of Saturn are not particularly spectacular at present, as we are looking at them almost side on. But you’ll still see one of the most unusual and spectacular sites in the sky. Even a good pair of binoculars will reveal them!
So keep checking where the planets are on the Internet and take a look regularly, when the sky is clear.
Oh! No! It’s the Germans Again!
