Is the United States Going to Legalise On-Line Poker?
According to the BBC, some states are going to do this.
As many Americans do it anyway, prohibition is just publicity and good fortune to those outside US law.
I don’t actually care as anybody who plays on-line poker, probably needs his head examined. I don’t use casinos or poker sites on-line, but I have played cards for money in the past and do bet on horse racing and various events on-line.
Legalisation could be good for the UK, as many of the trustworthy sites have a UK element.
Manana in Greece
I tweeted this.
My supper has finally arrived and it’s very good. You know there’s no translation of manana as it’s too urgent for Greece.
I’d waited some time for it. But as I said it was worth it.
Greek Salads on Syros
They all seem to have capers. Much nicer!
Smoking in Greece
You can’t seem to get away from it. Even in restaurants, where it’s illegal.
No wonder the economy here is in trouble. They spend too much time smoking.
Maps
Why is it most European maps don’t fold correctly?
Greek Taxis
I’ve had a couple of dodgy bills today, which were on the high side.
But one actually charged me correctly and refused a tip. Is this a record?
Greek Restaurant Bills
Greek restaurant bills are really simple. They give you a printed tally on the table and then you pay in cash when you leave, adding a tip if you want.
Very simple and seems to work, providing you don’t want to use a card.
Not seen any plate smashing though!
Are Cats Taking over the World?
It would seem so on Syros. There were a lot last time and there are more now! Most seem well fed. But are there any bords and rodents left?
My Second Time on Syros
I arrived on Syros at nine last night and immediately got a room in the Hotel Hermes. It’s a comfortable hotel with clean modern rooms on the port. I then had supper and slept well. At only 52 euros a night, it is to be recommended.
Syros seems different and I can’t remember much of the town from when C and I came with the boys in about 1981 or so. We had driven all the way from England in a borrowed car. We stayed in a villa on the beach, run by an eccentric Englishwoman called Lisanne Bates, It was near to a taverna run by a man called Yanni. I doubt I’ll be able to find it though.
