Celebrity Sex Secrets

The Times today, has the headline “Call girl must keep celebrity sex secret”.

It says how a celebrity has got an injunction ostensibly to keep his indiscretions from his wife.

He’ll be lucky if he gets away with this!

C did lots of divorces where all sorts of hanky-panky was going on, but partners always worked out the truth for themselves.  So in the end, no injunction will stop everything for all time.

So whoever it is that has obtained the injunction in The Times, he ought to make a clean breast of t now, as it’ll all end in tears.  The tabloids just have too much to gain from printing the truth. And somebody will accept their wads of notes to give them the story.

I was once told a story in the 1980s by the manager for BT in East Anglia.  He said that when they got complaints about high phone bills and checked, they found that someone was calling a particular number continually. From the pattern, they would often deduce, that someone was having an affair. In those days, divorce details were often reported in the local paper and they often found a divorce followed the phone bill complaint.

We can all speculate about who it is in The Times article, but give a couple of months and it’ll all be in the open.

On Line Banking Security

When I was in Greece, I increased my overdraft limit by logging in to my account over the Internet from an Internet cafe. The procedure at Nationwide is simple and relies on memorising three numbers or codes.  One is ten digits long, but written down it looks like a US telephone number.  So it is stored in my trusty Nokia 6310i, as a phone number complete with the US country code. As I have about a hundred numbers in my phone and fifty are in the US, it would be pretty difficult to find it, especially as I’m lying and you don’t have the other code words. But it does mean, I don’t have to take an obvious machine with me to see how my bank account is doing. I hope they don’t change the system and insist on using the machine to login, as this would be a less secure system. After all, I usually keep my debit card hidden when I’m abroad and only take it out when I need cash from a cashpoint.

I access other systems all the time like American Express and Zopa, but in all these cases, the only thing I need to remember is several code words.  Nothing is ever written down.

The security system, I don’t like is that for the John Lewis Partnership Card. If you don’t login for sixty days, you need to ask for a new password and that comes in a secure package that I have  difficulty opening with my gammy left hand.

If I didn’t shop at Waitrose, I’d cut the card up.

Security though is not just about logging in, it’s about what information you can glean from your on-line statements. The Partnership card just gives minimal information, but Nationwide gives quite a bit more.   Zopa incidentally, is very comprehensive about what it tells you about each transaction. In my view you can never give too much information. How long before cashpoint machines take your picture, when you draw money out? I’ve always believed that you can upload a picture against your credit or bank card, so that if there was thought to be a problem, it could be checked. There are lots of possibilities.

And how about an alarm pin number? Suppose you are being forced to use a cashpoint, by someone with a knife! If you typed in the alarm number, the following would happen.

  1. The cashpoint would appear to have accepted the correct pin.
  2. A small amount of money say something like £20 would be dispensed with a message that said you were now overdrawn and that was your lot.
  3. The card would be retained and of course blocked.
  4. Nothing would be done to indicate the transaction was anything other than normal.

Groups At the Olympic Park

I took this picture of a group enjoying themselves at the Olympic Park yesterday.

Enjoying Themselves at the Olympic Park

I think they were from a special school, but unfortunately, I couldn’t ascertain where they were from. But they were certainly having a good time.

Calls From 253-802-0308 in the United States

I have been plagued by this number.  Read more about others who have from this web page. What is interesting is this snippet in the page.

I have posted this before, so I will paste it here for others who may benefit. My husband and I both work in IT and Telecommunication. I researched the number and came up with the following. The company International Telecom has a service called Kallback.  It says it does the following:
1. Kallback lets you change your callback® phone number as you travel. Or you can pick a single, permanent location
Standard Trigger Numbers allow you to receive calls at a single, permanent location.
Traveler Trigger Numbers allow you to change your callback® location.
Personalized Trigger Numbers ask for you by name at a permanent location.
You can also trigger a call from the internet.

I also received a call from the number listed on this post.  The carrier for this number is  International Telcom, Ltd.

The thing with this service is that they can call you, but you can’t trace them.  These calls originate from outside the Continental U.S.  They do not come from Washington state.  They are like calling cards.  They show the trigger number, but not the number the call is actually coming from.  It is deceptive.

I think the information is genuine, so perhaps it is time that International Telecom got shut down or at least stopped their system being used by scammers.

Immigration and Bad Food Induced Health Problems

David Cameron did one important thing in his speech and that was lay out facts. People will argue he has been selective, but at least he tried.

I live in Inner London and as I’m a double immigrant in the 1800s, I can’t really moan about immigrants can I?  But I do get fed up with the proliferation of junk food shops everywhere, often staffed by exploited low-wage earning people with dodgy immigration status. These establishments also are constantly putting flyers for gluten-rich food through my door. I  am getting a notice made that politely asks the delivery people to put them in the wheelie bin by the door, to save me the trouble.

So perhaps we should make junk food more expensive for health reasons and to combat obesity.  The easiest way to do this would be to impose a high minimum wage for those who work in the fast food industry.  And then make sure it is strictly enforced!

Do Bendy Buses Encourage Cheating?

I tend to avoid bendy buses, but sometimes they are the first to turn up and I’m in a hurry. When you get on a normal bus, where you touch the Oyster reader by the driver, you never see people get on without doing it.  On the other hand a couple of weeks ago, I was in the middle of a bendy bus and at least half who got on at the middle and rear doors didn’t touch the reader.

It will be interesting to see the increase in revenue on a route like the seventy-free, when they change to normal buses in a couple of months.

Dr. Rosemary Gets It Right

Dr. Rosemary Leonard complained about giving cheap chocolate bars with newspapers on BBC Breakfast today.

The process annoys me, especially as the bars are always gluten-rich.  In fact, I no longer use W H Smith because of their practices, unless I don’t have a choice and then I just leave the vouchers on the counter.

You Can’t Get Away From Suffolk

I was at the Olympic Park yesterday and saw this artwork created by the children at a school in Lowestoft, displayed at the ViewTube.

Art at the ViewTube

It was actually rather good.  In fact, if you are in that area, there does seem to be a constantly changing set of artistic displays, which always seem to be worth visiting.

I just can’t seem to get away from the county where I spent nearly fifty years of my life.

Stirrings At the Dalston Junction Station Southern Entrance

I went past the entrance yesterday and took this picture.

A New Fence at Dalston Junction

Could they be getting ready to open the entrance,  as they have put up another barrier fence to create a walkway alongside the wall of the station?

A helpfl member of the station staff, thought that they might be waiting for the CCTV to be installed.

Incidentally, I did complain to London Overground about the non-opening and have not had a reply yet!

Let’s hope so.
