A Day At The Races

It was a good day, despite the fact that we didn’t win any bets, but we had a good place sitting in the sun, with a good view of the course and a big screen.

It was a pity too, that the Queen’s horse, Carlton House, didn’t win, but then she would have said something like.  “That’s racing!”

The only problem we had was that the train had to stop at East Croydon, so we had to change there for Tattenham Corner. So the train was rather crowded and we were fifteen minutes later than we should have been.

If I go again, I’ll also plan the picnic better and probably take a rug.

    • Not particularly. I just think she does a good job, which is more than can be said for some I could name.

But as someone who’s bred racehorses and has taken a couple to stallions at the Royal Stud, I know professionalism when I see it.
I have met her a couple of times, including once when I accidentally trod on her.

      • Most people have to earn their jobs though. Shame she didn’t abdicate if horse are her life.

My granny worked for the Tote on courses such as Epsom and Kempton – I would have backed her any day against ER.

  2. My family were all there too – unfortunately I was at a chess tournament with two of the children – we live just 20 minutes walk from the course, so attend every year. Maybe we can say hello next year! Next year will be huge though, as I believe it has been chosen as the event to launch the Birthday/Jubilee celebrations. Viv

    • It has been chosen yes.

We just came down to the Upper Tattersalls. So easy on the train, especially, if like me you can’t drive.

I might go to Epsom a bit more, as it’s the easiest course to get to from where I live.
