Planning for the August Bank Holiday

As I’ve said before, I hate bank holidays.

For next Monday though I have a plan. Whilst I was travelling in Tottenham, I saw on the map a building named as Markfield Beam Engine and Museum.

I shall be going as it is in steam on the Monday.

I could even go to the football in the evening at Ipswich!

But the aim is to enjoy myself and judging by the way they are playing at the moment, a team made up of eleven fit men in the North Stand could do better.

  1. You shouldn’t be bored on bank holidays as there are loads of events on. Whatever your interest you will find things on the internet that are worth a visit. Try http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/whatson/bank-holiday-london-events-feature-roundup-4002.html for a list of possible things to do. I am busy with the seven grandchildren and so I get no time off!

  3. A Working Beam Engine . . . They are impressive, and if shown in Old working Mines Dewatering with Lift or Force Pumps are great.

You will not be bored . . .

What about a Holiday Tour of say Museums:Air / Steam / Trains or any other interesting places . . .

This is an oppportunity to do those things you want to do on your tick off list.
I agree with John & Liz

    • London has three or maybe four working steam engines. However the best pair I’ve seen in the UK are in Cambridge. They were used to pump sewage from the city centre to the sewage works at Milton until 1968.

No engineer should visit the UK without going to this museum in Cambridge. Note the URL!
