A Stray Deltic

I took these pictures at Eridge station.

Did it get lost?

The Class 55 locomotive was actually starring on the Spa Valley Railway.

  1. Nimbus and Pinza… over 40 years after my first train-spotting session at Ally Pally station I still remember two of the locomotives’ names…

  2. Some names only followed the LNER tradition of naming the express engines after horses that won the Derby.

This is my story of a trip behind a Deltic on full throttle.

There are also tales here in Wikipedia.

Deltics must be the only diesel locomotives that are the stuff of legends.

Although, of course there are tales of InterCity 125s.

But then these have so much power, that if they are late and there’s a clear track, they can make a good fist of recovering time.
