A Planned Trip To Belfast
I’m thinking about going over to Belfast for a couple of days to have a look at the transport systems in the city and the wider Northern Ireland.
I have several things, I would like to do.
- Ride in the latest Wrightbus hydrogen and battery-electric buses.
- Ride in a Glider. I also intend to go to Pau to ride in a hydrogen-powered version of these Van Hool Equicity articulated buses, but Belfast is nearer.
- Perhaps, if I have enough time, I’ll visit a few touristy bits.
- Do a bit of research into offshore wind farms in Northern Ireland.
Has anybody got any advice?

Touristy bits – Giants Causeway but not easy to get to on public transport but there are or were all day coach tours that go in a long circular route – out via Belfast Lough (north side) to Larne and then up the coast, returning by a more direct inland route.
City Sightseeing open top bus tour of Belfast (not done that)
Or take a train ride to Derry – the last section along the coast is the most interesting. A day out in Derry – walk round the walls, etc.
Game of Thrones site or sites – not done that or a fan.
We have been to or through Belfast from Cairn Ryan 3 times via Stena for European Club rugby matches and so went for a week’s holiday each time – one visit was an Ulster match so a week around Belfast. The other two were for Leinster matches in Dublin so we had a day or two south of Belfast passing through or back.

I did the Derry trip last time I was in Belfast.
Interesting, what you say about the Giants Causeway – But then not every major UK city is like London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool and Newcastle.

You will just enjoy the vibrancy of Belfast and it has some of the best restaurants in the UK and of course the best beer. The Titanic Centre is well worth a visit. You will enjoy as it is nothing like how the news papers depict it.
