Addenbrookes TV/Phone System
I suppose beggars can’t be choosers, but it is not good. Cost is obviously an issue I don’t bother about, but whoever designed the system should be reducated. Wires get entwined with each other and the screens are distinctly user-unfriendly.
But my biggest gripe is that it doesn’t have BBC Radio 5 Live. I could at least get that through the Internet in Hong Kong. But there is no wi-fi on wards here. There should be!
Another point is that the Hong Kong system does the medical records too. But knowing a bit about computing in the NHS, I’m not surprised they got that one wrong.
Back in My Own Home
I arrived at my house at about eleven this morning.
It’s good to be back! Except for my left side and possibly a bit of vision, I’m not too bad either. I managed a trip to Waitrose with just a driver.
Feeling Better
Ensconsed in Ward R2 at Addenbrookes and hopfully I’ll be really home in a few days.
Food is not bad and it’s much more relaxed than Hong Kong.
Coming Home
All being well I’ll be on the Cathay Pacific flight leaving at 15:00 HK time today. I should be in Addenbrookes by midnight UK time.
Does the Time Difference Have an Effect?
I’m six hours ahead of the UK here and seven of Europe. So if I watch the cricket on Cricinfo or talk to friends at home, this tends to move my day backwards. I think it makes me tired and a bit stressed.
I suppose it’s a bit like jet-lag.
E-Mail Therapy
I’m finding that answering e-mails is good both physically and mentally. Anything sensible welcomed at my gmail address.
Not So Lucky
The hospital I’m in has no 4th, 14th, 24th or 34th floors. Superstition!
Physiotherapy
This is one of the highlights of the day. Especially, as the department looks over the green of Happy Valley racecourse.
An automated/instrumented body
As I lie here I’m connected to a heart monitor, that reports by radio to the central support unit. But they also take my blood pressure, pulse rate and temperature every hour or so.
How long will it be before I could wear a body suit, that did everything automatically, even if I was at home in bed?
This could take a complete map of everythung the wearer did.
In addition to medical treatment, it could have implications in the treatment of mental health and drug addition. especially if it contained a two-way communication link, so they could be informed when to take their medication.
