Confusion Over The Weather
This morning, the BBC ought to get its messages on the weather consistent.
Their headline is that there will be high pollution levels in the South East, which they illustrate with pictures of London.
But the weather babe on BBC London hasn’t mentioned the pollution, despite her forecast covering a lot of the South East.
And then the two presenters have just said it’s going to be a lovely day out there today.
It’s all confusing and I’ll ignore the lot of it and use my Mark One eyeballs.
How They Dug The Victoria Line
I found this documentary from 1969 on the BBC iPlayer
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00sc29t/how-they-dug-the-victoria-line
For those who enjoyed the BBC documentary about Crossrail, this is one they did earlier.
Ultimate Low Flying
Some pilots consider flying low an ultimate thrill.
So look at this report on the BBC web site.
I’ve Got A New Radio Station
A few months ago, my FM radio mysteriously disappeared from the downstairs bathroom. It was old anyway, but it would have allowed me to listen to BBC London on 94.9.
I do not know how it disappeared, and I suspect, it was a walk in thief as the cleaners went out, or the builders buried it under their mess.
But I’ve just found out that after retuning my television, I can get the station on Freeview 721.
The Zebra With The Weather
For those colour-deniers, who still watch television in black and white, Wendy Hurrell gave the weather on BBC London this morning in a special dress.
Do you think that the dress breaks up her silhouette, in much the same way that dazzle camouflage was used to hide the shape of warships?
The Power Of Check-Lists
The most interesting article in The Times yesterday was entitled How A Checklist Saved A Little Girls Life. It starts like this.
A simple procedure borrowed from the airline industry and a bit of humility has ensured many more patients survive
It is powerful stuff and I hope every doctor and health administrator reads it. But I doubt they will, as what does the aviation industry know about medicine?
The author of the article Atul Gawande is giving the Reith Lectures this year. I shall be listening.
You Are Absolutely Bonkers
This was the wonderful accolade that was given to Peter Duncan and his partner on Tumble.
He is putting us all to shame, doing what he does on the show, only a few years younger than I am!
Boring Television
It’s fascinating to read the heavyweight reviews on the BBC2 program, The Fifteen Billion Pound Railway, in the Independent and the Telegraph.
When did serious engineering programs get such coverage?
The Times has a report, if you’re a subscriber, but there’s nothing in the Guardian.
Wasting My Licence Fee
The BBC has just broadcast an interview with some Islamic nutcase.
Why is the BBC wasting my licence fee, giving fantasists like this time on the airwaves?
He might even be able to find out if jihadists go to heaven in a few days or weeks!
Is Google Burying The Truth?
In this blog, I do occasionally criticise individuals, but my comments are always fair and based on fact, unless it is something like fair comment on a design. As a supporter of the Libel Reform Campaign, and as someone who lived with a barrister for forty years, who did her first pupillage in Libel Chambers, I hope I know the difference between libel and fair comment.
But I am worried by the story of Robert Peston and his reporting of the banking troubles of the last decade, where Google has been asked to remove a story from their searches, he wrote in 2007. It’s all reported here on the BBC web site.
This morning the story is on the front page of The Times, and their report names the individual, who asked to be forgotten.
But they are also saying Google’s action might have backfired, as the story of the forgetting has been retweeted and commented on hundreds of times.
The story has been picked up by numerous newspapers including this story in the Mirror.
