Elvis’s Underpants Go On Sale

According to this article on the BBC, they should make about ten grand. And they haven’t even been washed!

As the stain is at the front, perhaps some fiendish scientist will recreate his sperm and sell it to silly women all over the world.

You do wonder how many women, who saw Elvis, are still of child-bearing age.

Who Lights The Flame at Stratford?

I’m not sure, but I’ve heard so much speculation about who it is!

Perhaps Danny Boyle has gone for that superb British institution; a compromise, where perhaps any number of celebrities and/or ordinary people do it together.

He’s certainly got everyone guessing!

Brian Cox on Libel Reform

Brian Cox, the particle physicist or celebrity scientist, depending on your view has a piece published in today’s Evening Standard about libel law reform in the UK.

It is a well-written piece that deserves to be read. As does Libel Law Reform’s web site.

What’s Wrong With Society

Helen Wright, headmistress  of an independent girls’ boarding school in Wiltshire has her view on this and says it is all summed up by covergirls in underwear.

Her views are published in full in this report in the Daily Mail. Here’s an extract.

Kim Kardashian is the poster girl for ‘almost everything that is wrong with Western society’, according to a leading headmistress.

The reality TV star is part of a culture  that glorifies women’s physical appearances over their character, claims Dr Helen Wright, head of a private girls’ boarding school.

In a speech tomorrow, Dr Wright will show Miss Kardashian posing in her underwear on the cover of men’s magazine Zoo.

The headline, from an edition last month, praises Miss Kardashian as ‘the hottest woman in the world’.

‘It is not too strong a statement, I venture to suggest, to say that almost everything that is wrong with Western society today can be summed up in that one symbolic photo of Miss Kim Kardashian on the front of Zoo magazine,’ Dr Wright will say.

‘The descent of Western civilisation  can practically be read into every curve, of which, you will note, there are in-deed many.

In the 1960s, girls like Miss Kardashian, were generally labelled by that wonderfully complimentary term, scrubbers.

But then it has always been thus.  At present, I’m watching Royal Ascot and a Royal historian has said that it was the place where George IV went to show off his mistresses.

There has always been a class of woman, who felt the quickest way to the top, was lying on their back, with their legs in the air and their knickers, if any, around their ankles.

Pointless Celebrities

They have a program on BBC1 with this name at the moment.

It probably sums the program up too!

BBC Breakfast Has Been Dumbed Down

Whether this is because of the move to Manchester, I do not know, but BBC Breakfast isn’t the program it was when it was in London. Obviously, the move cost it two of its best presenters; Sian Williams and Chris Hollins, but the rapport and banter between the presenters seems to have gone too.

I think too, that the regular guests, like Dr. Rosemary Leonard, have not been replaced with others of the of the same quality.  I know that it’s early days yet, but some have been absolutely dire, when talking about serious subjects.

And then there are many more segments about pop music and people struggling with horrendous injuries.  Today, there was only three serious stories. One about plastic bottle recycling, another about MOT bias and another about goal-line technology.

The sooner the program returns to its natural home in London, the better. Incidentally, one of the stories on BBC London; about children in care in Hackney and how long it takes them to be settled, should have been covered nationally.

But what illustrates the dumbing down and lack of quality most, is the story about the grooming of young girls in Rochdale. That didn’t get much coverage at all in the last few days.  Why not?

And what is the phone-in on Radio 5 about this morning? Celebrities!

Dustin Hoffman Saved My Life

This is the headline in a story in The Sun.

It concerns a man, who collapsed whilst jogging in Hyde Park and it was Dustin Hoffman, who called the ambulance.

All seems to be well now!

Donna Air Head

Apparently according to this case n Isleworth Crown Court, reported in the Telegraph, it’s alright to commit an offence if you’re stupid.  Donna Air’s lawyer said of her “not a great deal in her head but hot air.” And the jury let her off.

I hope that the CPS appeals.

My Dalliance With Joan Collins

Joan Collins was on BBC Breakfast this morning plugging a book.

I actually met her once in the queue for Immigration at Heathrow, after we’d both flown in from the United States. All I can say, is that she looked a lot better this morning, as I suspect she’d had time to do her make-up properly.

She did ask me a favour in the queue at Heathrow, which I declined.  but then I never light anybody else’s ciggie. Or even one for myself, for that matter!  Even if it belongs to Joan Collins!

Celebrity Watch

This column in the Times often unearths a couple of gems. Today we have a classic quote from Madonna. “I prefer high heels to sex.  They last longer.” Obviously, she doesn’t walk far in the heels!

The column also notes that Tulisa’s personal assistant has had her name tattooed on his ankle. Perhaps, it’s so he remembers who he works for!

It is also noted that Anne Robinson is returning to the dating scene after her divorce.  Heaven help all single men! Unless of course they like red-haired women, who like to play the dominatrix!
