Chelsea’s Gluten-Free Wedding Cake
Is Chelsea Clinton a coeliac? I doubt it, as she sounds like a faddy foodist or lifestyle-coeliac, who has gone gluten-free for effect! I’m sure if she was really a coeliac, she would have told the media. But she is having a gluten-free wedding cake!
It was funny that the bit about this pointless wedding on Radio 5, was just before Luke Harvey did his piece about the racing at Goodwood today. He talked about Hayley Turner , who had a ride on Barshiba in the Nassau Stakes, a Group One race at the highest level.
She actually is a coeliac and admits it in interviews and articles for the papers.
We need more open coeliacs like her and less like Chelsea Clinton.
Farewell Alex Higgins!
I always like to think, that I programmed in my pomp like Alex Higgins played snooker in his! That may be arrogant, but I can remember when he won one of his World Championships, I followed the final to the bitter end, whilst I was sorting out the scheduler in Artemis. It was always the scheduler, that caused me such grief! I can remember punching the air, as the last ball went in!
Now Alex has been taken. Probably by the Devil, who needs more tips on how to live a life of excess.
Snooker will never be the same again!
What worries me, is that he was younger than me! I hope he jumped the queue!
Karzai Wants The Kids To Be In Charge of the Sweetshop!
According to the BBC, President Karzai wants to have more direct control of the foreign aid to his country. Would that mean that more and more of the budget ended up in the Swiss bank accounts of him and his corrupt friends?
Afghanistan has significant mineral resources and of course, they will end up in the hands of the Chinese. Would they provide the funds to rebuild the country? They should, but I doubt they will!
The Chinese though might provide a military solution to the Taliban, when they try to protect their mines and other assets. On the other hand there are quite a few million Muslims in China and they wouldn’t want them to get restless and unruly in consequence, would they!
Exxon Funds Climate Change Sceptics!
Now there’s a surprise, but just think what would happen if governments really clamped down on the burning of fossil fuels to companies like Exxon. Read about it in The Times.
I shall not be buying any more Esso petrol and diesel.
Legal Highs
I don’t like drugs;prescription, legal or otherwise. I am on three drugs at the moment, warfarin to thin my blood, statins to stop my blood clotting and some tablets to reduce my hay fever. In a perfect society that is three too many.
There has been a report today about how dubious legal highs manufactured in China, sold on the Internet are now taken by millions of people.
Are people really that stupid to take such a substance?
I just typed “Legal Highs” into Google and I could easily buy enough dope to make an elephant fly!
The government is trying to find a way to ban them, but how do you ban something, when you don’t know what it is?
Somehow we must educate people that taking illegal substances and tobacco doesn’t do your health any good.
I also have read that Raoul Moat was a steriod abuser. Did that have any affect on his character and what he did? This article poses that question and provides a few answers.
Disabled Thinking
I am by no means disabled, but I am starting to take notice of stories about disabilities. This report about Muslim bus and taxi drivers refusing to take guide dogs got my sttention. Interestingly, when I go to Addenbrookes, I often see a guide dog in training, as obviously the hospital is a difficult environment, with crowds and trolleys everywhere. No-one seems to object there.
Returning to the public transport issue, it is against the law to not take someone with a guide dog. Perhaps, we need a few prosecutions to make sure the law is obeyed.
But it is not all bad news, as Leicestershire now allows guide dogs in training and their trainers to go free according to this report.
I should say that although, I’m pro-dog, you have to make sure your dog behaves properly. I’d also like to see those that keep nasty breeds and use them to intimidate are prosecuted as well.
That’s a Fine Mess You’ve Got Us In!
I knew the NuLabor project would all end in tears with us footing the bill and the report on the front page of today’s Times, says it all. Why don’t all these failed politicians crawl away into some hole somewhere and not bother us. But once they have tasted power, I suppose they want to keep it!
Nepotism – Tajik Style
This report says it all.
You may not be able to read it unless you have a subscription to The Times, but if you can’t just type “Zarrina Rakhmonova” into Google. There are several reports of her becoming a TV newsreader, in Tajikistan, where her father is president. Apparently, her brother, Rustam, is a professional footballer and a Member of Parliament. It would be interesting to see if he ever gets a red card. Incidentally, the national football team has a FIFA ranking of 135.
Female Priests as Sinful as Child Abuse, says Vatican
I could not believe this headline, when I saw it in The Times today.
But as it is in a nrespaper of record and by their respected religion correspondent, Ruth Gledhill, I’ll accept what it says, as a disgraceful statement, that completely betrays all those myriads of children, who have been abused by those who belong in one way or another to the Roman Catholic Church. I know quite a few Catholics, including a couple of judges, and I suspect most of them will be as horrified as I am by this report from the Vatican. The few crumbs of comfort in the statement, is that the Vatican has tightened the rules on abuse, and made it easier to dismiss and prosecute an abuser. Everyone who abuses a child, should be immeditely turned over to the police, so that they can suffer, the full and fair force of the law. If anybody, such as a bishop, protects an abuser, he should be prosecuted as well!
Annuity Rules to be Scrapped
You save all your life and create an adequate pension pot and then at 75, you have to turn it into an annuity, ehich in many cases would be like using twenty pound notes to keep warm in winter. But now the government has stated that it will abolish this rule according to the BBC.
The government has outlined its plans to scrap the long-standing compulsory deadline for people buying an annuity.
Present rules state that those with a personal or company money purchase pension must buy an annuity once they hit the age of 75.
In the Budget, the government changed this age from 75 to 77, and now it has outlined plans to abolish the deadline.
I’ll believe it when and if I get to 80. Remember that this change will mean all those commissions and charges that insurance companies and pension funds will lose. They’ll try all they can to stop the rule changes. After all government needs their services like the rest of us.
