As you can imagine if you dig a hole as large as CrossRail through London, you’ll find things, that history will value.

The Great British Stand-By
Around ten this morning I received an e-mail saying that the local party in the square will be held provided the weather is not too bad. If it deteriorates, it will be held in the crypt of the church. How very British to use the church instead.
There is also a rumour going around that if the weather gets worse the Olympics will be held in St. Paul’s cathedral.
Why The Weather Is So Bad?
There is a detailed explanation here in the Daily Telegraph. The first paragraph says it all.
The reason the weather is so bad this month is that a so-called jet stream, which lowers air pressure and brings unsettled weather, has become stuck over southern England.
I think it is a case of up the anchors and tow the country south.
But then summers were like this in the 1950s and 1960s. And we survived!
On the other hand we didn’t get all this flooding. But that’s because idiots allowed houses to be built on flood plains.
Even the Olympic Park has been built on a drained swamp, but it has lots of rivers running through it.
British Grand Prix May Be Cancelled
This has been announced and here is Jenson Button’s views in the Telegraph.
They could always do what Wimbledon has done and put a roof over the circuit.
Where Is Everybody Training?
The post about the Japanese swimmers got me thinking.

How about the Barbadian athletes in Crawley?
And the US synchronised swimmers in Dublin. Have they not heard Terry Wogan’s comments on their sport?
The Canadian and Australian gymnasts have gone to Lowestoft. Will they understand the local dialect?
The Bangladeshis have gone to Harrow. It is an easy Tube ride, for the best curries in London at Brick Lane.
The Russian swimmers have gone to Millfield school. I suspect the school is looking to rich Russians to send their kids.
Japanese Swimmers Train In Basildon
On the London BBC News, they showed the Japanese Swimming Team greeting the Olympic Torch Relay in Basildon, where they are training before the Olympics. The story about how they chose Basildon is here on the BBC.
I wonder what the Japanese are making of Basilson and have they worked out the humour behind the Essex Girl jokes. I wonder if Japan has a similar set of jokes about girls from an area of the country!
Is The Shard Value?
The Shard is charging £24.95 to go to the top. The Emirates Cable-Car is different and it costs just £3.20 to actually get somewhere. The London Eye is very coy about tickets and I think it costs £15, with the ability to pay extra for fast-track. You get fast-track for nothing on the cable-car if you use your Oyster card.
It strikes me that the choice is a no-brainer. Go on the cable-car, if cost is important to you.
One important point, is that all three projects have been realised by the MACE Group.
Passing the Olympic Site
Over a year ago I made a video, which I called from the Match Factory to Eastfield. Yesterday I made another.
It has obviously changed as we get nearer to the Olympics.
What Shall We Do With Rangers?
They’re talking this morning on the BBC Radio 5 phone-in about Rangers.
What right to Rangers have to exist, let alone go into their division of choice.
Just imagine, what would happen if say Chelsea or any of the big London clubs went bust. Every fan north of Watford, would want them to be kicked out completely, for all the arrogance they’ve shown over the years.
So fans of other clubs in Scotland are only acting how their English counterparts would.
But let’s face it, no team in Scotland, would beat the best two teams in Wales.
We certainly don’t want Rangers or Celtic with their sectarianism in the English leagues.
Rangers too, should pay their debs to HMRC.
