Does Elizabeth Rizzini Ever Wear The Same On-Screen Outfit Twice?

Elizabeth Rizzini is one of the ladies, who do the weather on BBC London.

She is always well-turned out, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen her wear the same on-screen outfit twice.

Unlike the obviously canny Scots lass, who usually does the weather on BBC Breakfast.

The BBC Gets The Pronunciation Wrong

According to the BBC Six O’Clock News, Gateacre School has been closed because of the heat. The story is here on the Liverpool Daily Post site.

But the BBC pronounced Gateacre wrong, by effectively making the mistake of treating it as two words; gate and acre.

I made the very same mistake, when I first went to the city.

The BBC’s Gloomy Reporting

Despite the good news of the near £10 billion boost the Olympics gave the UK, BBC London is leading with two negative stories.

In one they are saying local business in London are moaning about loss of business because of the games.

And in the other, we have the residents of Surrey complaining that they have more road closures this weekend because of another cycling event. I suppose that it does make it difficult to drive the 4×4. I did hear once that you need a degree in moaning to live in Surrey.

Of course for balance the BBC is also reporting that too much of the Olympic benefit came to London.

In some ways the best legacy from the Olympics in this weather, are the new air-conditioned Class 378 trains on the London Overground and the S Stock on the sub-surface lines of the London Underground. It can also be said, that the place which has benefited most from these trains, is Derby, where they were built or are still being built in the case of the S Stock. It can also be argued that these trains would have been ordered anyway. The value of the orders is approaching two billion pounds.

Why Is This Page Being Viewed?

The BBC has a list of the ten most viewed pages on its News web site.  But this one concerning Andrew Mitchell, dated the 20th October last year is listed as the eighth most viewed page.

Strange!

Andy Murray Shows The BBC Were Wrong To Move To Manchester

Andy Murray’s win is the lead story on BBC Breakfast, but he can’t appear in the studio with the trophy, to give out a very strong feelgood factor that we all need, as the program comes from Manchester.

If ever that ill-thought out move was exposed as a mistake, it is today.  The BBC will have to make-do with a video link from the All-England Club at Wimbledon.

I won’t give odds on one of the BBC’s rival getting Murray and the trophy on air.

I’d Quite Like To Watch Or Listen To The Rugby

Until recently, I used to get Sky Sports 1 and 2, through my BT Vision system, but now the signal has been cut, probably because Sky and BT aren’t talking to each other with the best interests of the customers in mind. I could get a signal through BT Infinity, which I want anyway. Unfortunately, fibre optic broadband is not available where I live close to the City of London. Get your finger out BT!

I could get a Sky dish, but I don’t want any other channels and in a few years, everything I want to see, will be available through fibre optic broadband. I don’t even mind, if it’s on a pay per view basis, as hopefully someone will see sense in streaming this without the adverts I hate.

But the rugby isn’t even on Radio 5! So I’m just watching a text commentary and getting the odd report from Ian Robertson on Radio 5.

At least the Lions seem to be doing OK, with Robertson describing them as rampant.

BBC Puts 3D On Hold

The BBC is finding that the public is losing their attitude for 3D programming, according to this article. Here’s the first two paragraphs.

The BBC is to suspend 3D programming for an indefinite period due to a “lack of public appetite” for the technology.

Kim Shillinglaw, the BBC’s head of 3D, said it has “not taken off” with audiences who find it “quite hassly”.

I’ve only ever watched one thing in 3D, which was a presentation at CERN. I tend to think of 3D as an unnecessary gimmick.

Famous Cambridge Stunt Recreated

The BBC web site gives a few details here about how Cambridge students put an Austin Seven van on the roof of Senate House in 1958.

The story is actually on the web, but in their archives the BBC should have a recording of Tonight, where the whole stunt was explained to Cliff Michelmore. But then the BBC used to habitually reuse videotapes, so I suppose it’s gone.

Do Weather Babes Make Weather Forecasts Better?

When did you last see an ugly or obese lady doing the weather on the television?

Even the Scottish lady of a certain age, who does the weather on BBC Breakfast, would be an acceptable partner on a date.  I did see her once in the flesh and I think she looks younger on the box.

Today with the end of summer, BBC London has brought out one of their most glamorous presenters from a stable, that only includes one make, who seems to be only let out in the evening.

I do think that television, sexes up the weather.

An Acadian Hero

Lyse Doucet is one of my favourite broadcasters and in some ways a bit of a hero, as she seems so unfazed of all the horrors she has faced, just being the total professional.

Like many I suppose, I’d always assumed she was from Quebec, due to her French name and her accent.  But she is actually an Acadian, a group, who I knew little of until I looked Lyse up last night. Wikipedia says this.

Although today most of the Acadians and Québécois are French speaking (francophone) Canadians, Acadia was a distinct colony of New France, and was geographically and administratively separate from the French colony of Canada (modern day Quebec), which led to Acadians and Québécois developing two rather distinct histories and cultures.

I first became aware of Lyse, when she was reporting from Iran. In one report for From Our Own Correspondent, she described how the Russian Ambassador at a news conference, had started chatting her up, and was totally surprised, when he found the lady in the burkha was Canadian.

I do find it strange that two of my heroes are called Lyse or Lise.  The other is of course Lise Meitner.
