Am I Illiterate?

In The Times today there is a section called “The 25 Books You Should Read”

I’ve read just one; Pride and Prejudice. And that was for my GCE O Level!

So am I Illiterate?

Mincepiration

What a lovely name for a cookery book featured in The Times yesterday.  The recipes they showed were all gluten-free or could be made so by using gluten-free flour.

I may not buy the book, but I think I’ll try and find a copy and have a browse.

A year ago, I’d have just bought it on Amazon.  But their tax antics and the offensive tee-shirts, they have sold recently, have put me off buying from them.

What’s This All About?

I went to lunch at Leon in Kings Cross station today and saw this small crowd afterwards on the concourse.

Does J K Rowling realise what she’s started? I suspect her bank account does!

Is This EL James’s DIY Store?

I passed this shop today on a 141 bus.

I wonder if they sell chain and rope?

The Books They Leave Behind

Travelodge has published a list of the books most likely to be left in their hotel rooms. It’s reported here in the Telegraph.

Unsurprisingly, Fifty Shades of Grey tops the list. But then, that is to be expected, as there are more copies of it to leave behind.

There was no suggestion of whips, chains and nipple clamps being found.

Fifty Sheds Of Grey

According to The Sunday Times, this parody is outselling the EL James classic and is at number five on the best seller list!

From what I’ve read about it, it might make the ideal present for the not so modern man.

How To Rip Off Amazon?

With all the fuss about the tax Amazon doesn’t pay I like this advert.

How To Rip Off Amazon?

It’s boldly displayed in Angel station.

Rekindle is defined in a dictionary as to arouse or cause to be aroused again.

The British Superhero

James Bond is everywhere at the moment.

Why is James the archetypal British superhero, whereas those created on the other side of the Atlantic are very often non-human?

I can’t think of a British superhero in the style of Superman say, but going back to John Buchan‘s, Richard Hannay and before, there have been quite a few literary characters in the style of Bond.

The Car Can Wait, I’ve Got Something Better To Do

According to news reports, like this one in the Standard, shares of Haynes popular car manuals have slumped.

And supposedly it’s all because of Fifty Shades of Grey!

So are men reading the book, attempting to write better ones or doing important research in the garage?

Or have women found better ways of distracting men, from adjusting their big-ends?

The truth will come out when a student publishes their doctorate on the effect of the book! It will probably a lot more interesting than the novel.

Corsets On The Underground

I saw this advert a couple of times on the London Underground today.

Corsets On The Underground

Incidentally, I’ve never read the original book or seen any of the various films. You have to ask how Eve Sinclair collaborated with Charlotte Bronte.
