Gluten-Free Quiche At Romeo’s
This gluten-free quiche was delicious.

Gluten-Free Quiche At Romeo’s
I now seem to go most Friday’s for lunch.
Gluten Free Bread And Benecol Anybody?
At ten today, a Sunday, Romeo’s Gluten Free Bakery was busy and I bought a seeded loaf for my supper.
- Accompanying My Supper
I’ve just eaten a crust and a slice with Benecol. Before I was diagnosed as a coeliac, I was always a bit of a glutton for nice bread, as was C.
I hope my bad habits don’t make me put on weight! But the bread was amazingly delicious!
My supper tonight was the second part of one of Lindsey Barham’s Sausage Stew With Apple And Spinach. The observant will notice that I forgot to add the soinach.
Are Things Happening At Romeo’s?
I passed Romeo’s Gluten Free bakery on a 30 bus and took this picture.

The web site says that they’re opening in November 2013.
Not Pure Genius
I needed a snack this afternoon and thought some Genius toast with some strawberry jam would do nicely!

Not Pure Genius
These were the first two slices I got from the packet! So they were discarded.
On the subject of holes, I’m always reminded of a story about a former MP, who died some months ago.
A friend of a close friend of my late wife’s was at a party when she was chatted up by the MP. He thought he had struck lucky and escorted the lady up to a bedroom.
Everything went fine, until he took off his shirt to reveal a grey vest with large holes in it.
Islington Gets Another Cafe Without A Gluten-Free Offering
This cafe called Vivo at Islington Green looks very nice, but when I asked if they had anything that was gluten-free, the staff hadn’t a clue.

They probably thought I was asking for free food.
Just up the road though there is Carluccio’s and when and if it opens, there will be Romeo’s. But one of the troubles is several Euphorium bakeries, which as far as I know don’t do gluten-free food either. And of course, the company is owned by Tesco, so I would only use it in an emergency.
Searching For A Genius Loaf
I generally have a soft brown, Genius loaf in the bread bin and today, I threw the remains of the last one out, as all I had left was the wrapping and two rather battered crusts.
So as I wanted to get a paper, I thought I’d get a new one at the littleWaitrose at Highbury Corner. But they only had the soft white bread, which would not be my first choice.
I know I can usually get the desired bread at Sainsburys at the Angel, but that would have meant coming back from there in the scrum of the rush hour. so I took the Overground to Dalston Junction, to try to buy the bread at the Co-Operative store at the station.
They did have a loaf, but the sell-by date was not very far away and the loaf felt, as though it was not that fresh.
So I took the bus home.
It’ll teach me not to do all my shopping at a bigger Waitrose like Canary Wharf or Bloomsbury. I don’t think I’ll bother with buying food at that Co-operative again.
Carluccio’s Do A Gluten-Free Crostini
This week, Carluccio’s have a gluten-free crostini on the special menu.

Carluccio’s Do A Gluten-Free Crostini
It is all about garlic, mushrooms and rocket.
It made a nice change as a starter.
Incidentally, the Carluccio’s in Islington now has wi-fi. And like the system in Manchester Piccadilly, it is easy to connect to it.
An Ideal Job For A Coeliac!
Something seems to be stirring at Romeo’s Gluten Free Bakery On Upper Street in Islington.
A notice has appeared saying that they are hiring.

An Ideal Job For A Coeliac!
They also gave a web site address, which appears to be as they say still being cooked.
Carluccio’s Gluten Free Bread Is In The Soup!
I had soup for lunch in Carluccio’s one day this week.

The gluten free bread made excellent croutons.
Wherefore Art Thou Romeo?
I’m not referring to a lover, but to Romeo’s Gluten Free Bakery that has been coming soon in Upper Street since the Spring.
I was in a shop opposite on Friday and one of the assistants there couldn’t understand how opening a shop could take so long. She also knew the size of the rent, they will be paying, so it looks like this is one business venture that probably won’t get off the ground.
They’ve whetted everybody’s appetite by saying what’s coming soon and then not done anything. A date on the window would help.
I’ve given up on them ever opening and I’ll stick to my Genius.
