Am I Feeling Better Because of the Keppra

My typing has improved again and I seem to be making fewer mistakes.  I seem to have much more control over the Shift and Control keys and I don’t make the spelling mistakes I did a few days ago.

Could this be an effect of taking the Keppra?

Whoever Supplied This Should be Prosecuted

I indicated in an earlier post that the United States was having difficulty in getting enough sodium thiopental to carry out executions.  It now appears that a British company has supplied the drug. This is an extract from the BBC’s report.

Writing in the Guardian newspaper, a British civil rights lawyer, Clive Stafford Smith, has called for the naming and shaming of the company as it was “making a business out of killing”.

“One question that immediately springs to mind is whether it is criminal for the British corporation to profit from such a killing: while the language is loose, EU Council Regulation 1236/2005 takes a step along this path, making it illegal to trade in certain goods which could be used for capital punishment, torture, or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment…’

“When the veil of secrecy is inevitably sundered, this British corporation should be reminded that the medical profession boasts of a Hippocratic oath, not a hypocritical one,” he wrote.

I agree with Clive and will be writing to the company, when it becomes known.

A CT Scan for My Sinuses

I’ve had several of these over the years, but yesterday’s to check my sinuses was the quickest and most efficient.  It was also on time.  I think it is true to say, that all of these checks are now getting this way, so at last health practitioners are getting their systems right, which will benefit us all in improved quality of health care at hopefully a lower cost, as expensive machines running 100% of the available time must be more cost effective.

I should get the results in a few days.

But I am feeling better, although I still have a fair bit of pain in my face.  But it’s getting better, probably due to the small dose of Amitriptyline I’m taking before I go to bed.  It’s certainly making me sleep longer and probably slightly better.

Fragile Warfarin Tablets

The pharmacist recently changed my Warfarin tablets to a different make; Teva UK, Leeds LS27 0JG.

TEVA Warfarin Tablets

Medically, I ASSume they’re OK, but I tend to break them getting them out of the packaging. The dog doesn’t mind, as she’ll eat anything that can go down a basset.

Celebrity Punishment

George Michael’s sentence of eight weeks for his driving under the influence of cannabis is totally wrong.  As he could have easily killed someone, the sentence is not over the top either.

The reason is that it costs the taxpayers a lot of money and actually makes a lot of people feel rather sorry for him.

He needs to be punished and perhaps the best way to do that with celebrities is to take their comfortable lifestyle away for a couple of months.

So perhaps for six months, we do the following.

  1. His passport is taken away.
  2. In that six months, he must either use public transport or be driven in something like a Mondeo, by an approved Court-appointed driver. There would definitely be no limos or luxury vehicles.

A punishment like this would be much cheaper on the taxpaper than prison and perhaps he might learn something!

To be fair to George Michael, though he’s probably done so much damage to his body with smoking, drugs and alcohol, that he might not live as long as he should!  Now death is truly a punishment, but only when it is self-inflicted by a stupid lifestyle choice!

Should We Licence Cannabis?

I have never taken recreational drugs and probably never will.  I also feel that our current strategy against drugs is a total failure and probably just makes things worse.

So it was very refreshing to read the views of Professor Roger Pertwee on the BBC. His views about licensing sales, should be taken seriously.  After all, getting criminals out of the loop, ensuring quality and protecting health are probably more important.

But his views will be totally ignored.  All we will do is go on building more prisons, so we can lock everybody up!

Your Wife Photos Attached

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been getting several e-mails every day with a title of “Your Wife Photos Attached” and just a zip file enclosed.  My ISP marks them as spam and as I’m careful, I have never opened the zip, so they have been no threat to my computer until now.

As a widower though, who sorely misses his wife, I don’t like theses messages.

So finally curiosity got the better of me and I this morning I decided to find out what the zip files contain.

I don’t recommend doing this, but if you are careful it is a perfectly safe procedure. I copied the zip file on to an SD card and then transferred this to an old  laptop, which is unconnected to the network and the Internet The laptop also has nothing of value on its hard drive, except gigabytes of nothing.

So what did the zip file contain?

Just an image containing a Russian web address, that if you typed it into your browser would give you access to cheap Viagra-type drugs.  They would probably be cheap, but useless fakes.

So from a computing point of view they would appear to be safe at present!

But never take the chance of clicking on one of these zip files.  Someone will start distributing ones, that are dangerous rather than just annoying!

Legal Highs

I don’t like drugs;prescription, legal or otherwise.  I am on three drugs at the moment, warfarin to thin my blood, statins to stop my blood clotting and some tablets to reduce my hay fever.  In a perfect society that is three too many.

There has been a report today about how dubious legal highs manufactured in China, sold on the Internet are now taken by millions of people.

Are people really that stupid to take such a substance?

I just typed “Legal Highs” into Google and I could easily buy enough dope to make an elephant fly!

The government is trying to find a way to  ban them, but how do you ban something, when you don’t know what it is?

Somehow we must educate people that taking illegal substances and tobacco doesn’t do your health any good.

I also have read that Raoul Moat was a steriod abuser.  Did that have any affect on his character and what he did? This article poses that question and provides a few answers.

Microsoft Sells Drugs

I actually think not, but this spam e-mail, which looks as if it had come from Microsoft, is actually selling the drugs, that are the main source of income for many crooks and fraudsters around the world. What gave the e-mail away was its title of “Your rod will stay”, so I suppose it was about turning software into hardware!

2009 Microsoft | Unsubscribe

Microsoft Corporation, One Microsoft Way, Redmond, WA 98052

The links in the mail actually point to a web site called tastymighty.com, which is registered in China and the e-mail may actually have come from a spammer in Uruguay. The web site is yet another incarnation of the well known fake drug provider, the Canadian Pharmacy.

I have seen spammers using the fake Microsoft e-mail, but not for some time.  So beware anything like this, as trying to unsubscribe just takes you to the drug site.

Viagraski

I am getting a lot of spam trying to sell me the various erection dysfunctional drugs on Russian web sites.

In a way you can understand this, especially if like me you have read Fred Pearce‘s excellent book, Peoplequake. In the chapter on Russia, he says that the birthrate is dropping fast, as Russian men are spending most of their time with cheap vodka.  So perhaps they need all the help they can get!

The e-mails are easily spotted as they just contain an inane comment and a single png file. Delete immediately!
