Deadly ‘Climate Change’ Fungus Targeted In Drug Project

A rapidly growing deadly fungus, thought to have emerged in humans due to climate change, is one of the targets of a £17.9 million drug project.

  • Found particularly in hospitals and care homes.
  • Many infections occur when medical devices such as catheters or ventilators are fitted to patients.
  • I’ve had my fill of catheters, when I had my stroke in Hong Kong.
  • Immunocompromised people are most at risk.

I may be coeliac, but I tend to believe my immune system is like a platoon of SAS soldiers on steroids. It certainly gave the AstraZeneca viral vector Covid-19 vaccine a good kicking. But it welcomed the second dose, like a long-lost friend.

I asked Google if there was any interaction and got this reply.

While Candida auris is a serious fungal infection, it is not directly linked to celiac disease. However, Candida albicans, another type of yeast, has been implicated in the development or exacerbation of celiac disease through mechanisms like cross-reactivity and molecular mimicry.

I shall act responsibly and hope for the best.

But.

  • Research at the University of Padua has shown, that diagnosed coeliacs sticking to their gluten-free diet, don’t get serious doses of Covid-19.
  • Research at the University of Nottingham has shown, that diagnosed coeliacs sticking to their gluten-free diet, have a lower cancer rate, than the general population.
  • I’ve very rarely had colds, flu and other infection, since my diagnosis as a coeliac and going gluten-free in 1997.
  • I’ve never had Covid-19.

A Floridian restauranteur once called me one of the Devil’s children, as I was a coeliac. If that is true, she certainly looks after her own!

Solar Farms And Biodiversity

The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on Solar Power Portal.

This is the sub-heading.

A number of academics around the UK are researching the impact of solar farms on biodiversity, and major studies have all drawn the same conclusion: when well-managed, solar farms are not harmful to biodiversity and can actively support the growth of nature in an area.

Research at the Universities of Cambridge, Exeter, Keele and Lancaster is covered in the article.

This is the second post, I’ve written with the same title of Solar Farms And Biodiversity. in the other post, I talk about hares, which were not talked about in today’s post.

On this page on the lightsource bp web site, this is said about brown hares at Wilburton Solar Farm.

According to the Hare Preservation Trust, the population of the Brown Hare in the UK has declined by more than 80% over the last 100 years, and in some areas may even be locally extinct. But at Wilburton Solar Farm, the Brown Hare is thriving. Before the installation of the solar farm, the local gamekeeper had only observed three or four Brown Hares on site, but since the solar farm has been established, he has regularly seen more than 50.

From my observations of hares over the years, I suspect that solar farms could be an ideal habitat for hares.

Rheenergise & University Partners Secure £1M Grant From UK Government

The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero funded research project will identify and test minerals and discarded wastes for use in RheEnergise’s grid scale hydro energy storage system.

And these are the first three paragraphs.

In partnership with the University of Greenwich and the University of Exeter, RheEnergise, the UK company that is developing a new and advanced form of pumped hydro-energy storage, has secured a grant of £1 million funded through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP) as part of the UK Government’s Energy Entrepreneurs Fund. The government grant will fund work to identify and test waste materials that could be used in the high-density fluid (HDF) that is integral to RheEnergise’s grid-scale High-Density Hydro® energy storage system. The HDF is an environmentally benign alternative to water.

RheEnergise’s long duration storage system is low-cost and energy efficient. The fluid used in the system is 2½ times denser than water (similar in viscosity to cream) and is therefore able to provide 2½ times the power and 2½ times the energy when compared to conventional low-density hydro-power systems that rely on water and operate in the Scottish Highlands, Wales and across Europe. It means that RheEnergise can deploy its long duration energy storage system beneath the surface of hills rather than mountains, so opening up massive commercial opportunities in the UK, Europe and further afield.

The research project, funded by the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero’s Energy Entrepreneurs Fund, wants to identify suitable minerals and waste streams which can be recycled into the high-density fluid which can be locally sourced and are lower-cost, rather than having to rely on minerals imported from overseas.

I feel the concept of High-Density Hydro is excellent and will work.

If this research leads to lower costs, that can only help the development and deployment of High-Density Hydro.
