Are Those Opposed To Gay Marriage Bigots?
Nick Clegg has got into hot water over the draft of his speech saying those opposed to gay marriage are bigots.
I must admit, that the only people I’ve ever heard, who are against gay marriage, and there haven’t been many, have been opposed to homosexuality as well.
I get a lot of evangelicals knocking at my door trying to convert me and I asked one, what their views on gay people was. They were told politely to Foxtrot Oscar, after I heard their views.
The other thing that annoys them, is when I say my God is female. But it has the right effect and they move on.
Wasting The European Court’s Time
The European Court is going to rule today on whether Christians were discriminated in the work-place. It’s here on the BBC. They’ve also wasted an hour on this morning’s phone-in on the subject.
Let’s face it, it’s easier to do this than actually work for a living.
I suspect though that if she exists, God takes a very dim view of all this legal work.
What Right Has This Man To Condemn Gay Marriage?
Cardinal O’Brien is getting all Catholic churches in Scotland to read out an anti-gay marriage letter. He must be going very near the anti-discrimination legislation, so he might find that he gets interviewed by the boys in blue. And I don’t mean Rangers supporters.
In a way, it’s all rather sad, as he is effectively saying that we don’t want certain types of people in the Catholic church. To some religion is important. Not me I hasten to add. But it has caused so much trouble in this world and still does.
In my view, churchmen and other religious leaders should stay out of areas like race and sexuality. And probably politics and football too, except as voters and supporters! Except of course, when they are trying to calm a difficult situation. Here he’s pouring petrol on the fire!
I would also say, that can anybody who has never been married, make a sensible statement, about the joy that relationship can bring.
Why Is There So Much Religious Bigotry About?
Two stories have dominated the BBC’s most read list this weekend; the arrest in Pakistan of a disabled girl from a Christian family for blasphemy and the breaking off of talks by Cardinal O’Brien with the Scottish government over gay marriage.
Are those behind the bigotry trying to outdo each other?
With regard to the second story, I suspect that there must be quite a few gay Roman Catholics in Scotland.
If Mitt Romney Is The Next US President, Diplomacy Goes Out The Window.
Mitt Romney’s comments on the Olympics show that he is no diplomat. Read about it in the Independent here. The fact that he is a Mormon too, doesn’t go down well with me. In fact, being part of a small powerful sect, should disbar one from being Head of State.
i hope the Americans see sense and return Barack Obama for a second term in November. Hopefully, Mormon Mitt, will put his foot in his mouth many times in the next few months.
Wanted: Wife No. 4 for Cult Pinup
This is the headline in the Sunday Times today and it is about Tom Cruise.
I think any woman who thinks she might like the position needs her head examined, as a man who has been married three times must have something wrong with him. And then there’s his so-called religion! I wouldn’t insult the great religions of this world, by leaving out the so-called.
The Ramadan Rush
It would appear from The Times, that rich shoppers from the Middle East are getting their shopping in before Ramadan starts on July 20th. They also claim that France’s burqa ban, means that shoppers now prefer London.
The French really know how to create laws that help their business sector, especially as they are bringing in a financial transaction tax.
Government To Ban Forced Marriages
Both The Times and The Guardian are saying that the Government is to ban forced marriage. The report in the latter is here. This is the first paragraph.
PM to announce whether forcing someone to marry should be outlawed amid speculation it could carry jail term.
We should have had this law in place several years ago.
Some might thing that The Times is particularly anti-Muslim today, as in addition, it has a leader very critical of Rotherham Council about covering up a report about the grooming of young girls by men of Pakistani origin and a report about Muslim thuggery in Whitemoor Prison.
I don’t.
All of these abuses must be removed from this country and I support those devout Muslims, who are working to that end.
The Vatican Has Its Troubles Too
According to this report on the BBC, the Association of Catholic Priests in Ireland is discussing the Church’s future.
And as they are sensible reforms, in areas like celibacy, contraception and woman priests, the Vatican is not pleased. I wonder whether they are discussing whether coeliacs can be priests, something that the Pope is personally against. Even though that rule would have stopped Liverpool’s excellent Archbishop Warlock being a priest.
Getting Into the Habit
This was one of the headlines in the second part of The Times on Tuesday and it described why more women are becoming nuns.
I would say it is their choice, but surely in these days there are much better things that people can do for the general good of society. There was a Catholic chaplain in Alder Hey hospital in Angels of Mersey. She was doing the practical things that benefit those in emotional difficulties, rather than being out of it all in a Convent.
I do feel that some who go into closed orders are just opting out of real life to the detriment of society.
