Beccles Station and the Start of the Construction of the Loop
On the way to football at Ipswich, I went via Beccles station, to see how the loop is progressing.
As you can see, there hasn’t been much done yet.
I hope that they improve the station as well as the track. I was there just after a very rainy morning and there was only one dry place to sit; a small patch of low concrete wall. Passengers started turning up about half-an-hour before the train and a couple were quite a bit older than me. There wasn’t even a pub or a cafe nearby.
I’ve been to quite a few unmanned stations in East Anglia, but Beccles must surely be one of the worst, if not the worst!
GreaterAnglia Trains Don’t Terminate
They complete their journeys, as I heard tonight. Terminate is so hard and possibly tragic. I’ve complained of this before.
Wot No Rails!
This picture was taken at Whitechapel station on the Metropolitan and District lines.
The gap will be filled in, to create a big island platform and escalators will be put there to get to the Crossrail platforms below.
A Bendy Train
London of course, has got rid of its bendy buses, but now it has bendy trains on the Metropolitan line. I travelled on one on Friday.
These seem to be doing the job they were designed for, which the buses didn’t do too well.
Honor Oak Park Station
Honor Oak Park station is on the East London Line and it is a station I passed through on the way to see Ipswich play at Crystal Palace this afternoon.
But why is it spelt the American way?
It is actually spelt in the proper old English way from the Latin roots, which of course Americans would have originally used. There is a discussion here. Note that the girl’s name as in, the actress, Honor Blackman is also spelt without the u.
So don’t write to London Overground and complain!
Oyster Cards for London Visitors
I have a feeling that London doesn’t do enough to publicise how a visitor to London gets an Oyster card and what the terms are. I was asked this morning by a couple of Austrian ladies and they seemed at a bit of a loss. So I asked a helpful London Underground lady at a barrier and she gave me the full rules, which include.
- To get an Oystercard you need to put up a refundable £5 deposit in addition to how much credit you want.
- You can top up an Oystercard using a credit card at machines.
- If you no longer want your Oystercard when you leave the UK, you can cash it in at certain places. Or even give it to charity!
At
Thoughts of Angel on the Drought
I’ve posted before about Thoughts of Angel at Angel station on the Northern line.
This was their comment on the drought.
More Views of the Gibson Square Temple
I put a view up of the temple-like air extract from the Victoria line earlier, when it was still being finished.
It now is and good it looks too.
Why can’t we disguise functional buildings in this excellent manner more often.
The New Balcony at Waterloo
I went to Waterloo station today to see how the new balcony was progressing.
It will be used for shops and eateries and according to one personable young lad in Marks and Spencer, it should be open by the end of this month.
The Scheduler Strikes Again
After yesterday’s problems getting to Ipswich, I have vowed that I’ll always travel in a proper train again.
However next Monday, Ipswich play Leicester at home and guess what. It is the usual Newbury Park detour with a coach. So that’s a match I’ll miss unless I want to have a very bad arm after the journey.
On the other hand, they’re putting on another train for Norwich supporters to get to Tottenham.
