Where was the Health and Safety Assessment?
This story of an off-duty trainee fireman, who saved a man from a blazing car, that then exploded, is a good story we all like to read. The fireman is being rightly praised and no-one is bothering about the Health and Safety implications. Perhaps, we have moved on in this area.
Smoking is so last century: the new stigma is obesity
This is the title of an article in the Evening Standard tonight.
I very much agree, although in many ways they are equally bad.
Wonga Bad, Zopa Good?
This question was asked in an article in Finextra.
It’s a good read.
One thing Zopa has proved, is that when dealing with finance, you can work a sort of co-operative or Big-Society idea, using the standard techniques of the Internet. So in some ways the good thing about Zopa, is the way it has created a comunity around its business, which educates and then brings people to that business.
“The Jubilee was one of the greatest aquatic triumphs of the British people”
This was said by Boris Johnson on American television, when he was promoting his book. There’s a video of it here.
Have we ever had a politician like Boris before?
Boris hints that he could be President of the United States as he was born in New York.
I suspect, he’d make a better fist of it, than some of second-raters, who’ve held the job in my lifetime.
Lloyds Unloads Bad Loans
It is reported that Lloyds Banking Group has unloaded £809 million worth of bad Australian loans for £388 million.
That looks like bad business to me. Did they claw back the bonuses of the twits that signed off that rubbish in the first place?
Now We Know Why Waitrose Took Over Duchy Originals
The Times today publishes a picture of Mark Price, the MD of Waitrose in the Royal Box for the Diamond Jubilee Concert.
It’s alright for some!
Intel’s Simple Smart Phone
That’s what they say it is. But I doubt it will beat a Nokia 6310i. Read about it here.
But Intel have never eaten ARM yet on electricity usage for a given power.
My Nokia 6310i Got Cooked
It now looks like my Nokia 6310i seems to have got rather cooked in this house. I’ve always felt that the atmosphere was weird to say the least and according to the menders the phone has suffered from water damage, as had the other one I sent to them. Perhaps the reason the Junkberry has died is down to the same reason and obviously, it might have something to do with why computer mice keep packing up. I’ve also had trouble with the remote control of my television. The remote control problem is usually solved by bringing in the one from the bedroom, which is virtually the same. But the air in the bedroom is different. It looks like the electronic equipment gets hot and then all of the water condenses on it.
This would also explain, why I feel so much better, when I go for a walk.
And Now Defoe Has To Go Home!
Luck doesn’t seem to be going Roy Hodgson and England’s way! And now Jermaine Defoe has had to return home because of the death of his father. A report is here.
Let’s hope England will find strength in adversity.
LinkedIn Passwords
LinkedIn has been hacked and their passwords have been st0len. There are details here.
Usually, I keep my passwords pretty random and unique, but mine must be one that they thought could get them into my Google Account. I didn’t, as I got this e-mail from Google.
Someone recently tried to sign in to your Google Account, xxxx@xxxx.xxx. We prevented the sign-in attempt in case this was a hijacker trying to access your account. Please review the details of the sign-in attempt:

I didn’t trust the e-mail, but logged in manually to Google and changed my password. Incidentally, when I logged in, Google informed me of the suspicious activity.
So it does look like there is some hanky-panky going on.
So login to all your important accounts, where your e-mail address is used as login in any way and check things out.
