The Diesel-Hybrid 141 Buses Always Seem To Get Through
Today, I had an all-too-typical bus-rid back from Moorgate after breakfast and a bit of shopping.
My direct bus is a 141, which is a second-rate, Chinese BYD bus, which has a number of problems as I pointed out in My 78-Year-Old Legs Are More Reliable Than The New Chinese Buses On London’s 141 Bus Route.
- I just missed a 141, so I caught the next bus that was going my way.
- It was a New Routemaster on the 76 route, so I took a chance, that it might pass the previous 141 bus, as they often do.
- As we passed Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, we passed the 141, but it was stopped at the side of the road, with all its lights flashing.
- I decided to change two stops from home and left two stops from home, from where I could walk.
- I waited perhaps five minutes before an elderly Wrightbus diesel-hybrid arrived to take me home,
After today’s experience, I can’t help but remember the old joke!
- Question: What’s red and lies in the gutter?
- Answer: A dead bus!
Other colours are available.
Vape Ban Isn’t Working, Says Waste Firm Boss
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on the BBC.
This is the sub-heading.
The ban on disposable vapes is failing to stop millions being thrown away incorrectly, and the devices are still causing chaos for the waste industry, a boss at a leading firm has said.
These three introductory paragraphs add more detail.
“We’re seeing more vapes in our system, causing more problems, more fires than ever before,” said Roger Wright, the strategy and packaging manager at Biffa.
Vape firms have launched cheap reusable devices, so instead of refilling and recycling them, people were binning them and buying more, he said.
A spokesperson for the vape industry said the June ban had been a success, and any rise in devices being thrown away was likely due to black market trade.
It looks to me, that the government didn’t get the legislation right.
Are Disposable Vapes Available On The Internet?
To find the BBC story, I typed “Disposable Vapes” into Google.
I found headlines like these.
- Cheap Disposable Vapes | From 50p | Free Delivery
- Disposable Vapes – Multi-Buys & Free Next Day Delivery
- Legal Big Puff Disposable Vapes on Sale in the UK
Why aren’t these adverts being taken down?
Every High Street Should Have One!
The pictures show the latest shop to open on City Road between Old Street and Moorgate stations.
As it is by a 141 bus stop on my way home from the Elizabeth Line, next time I need something, I can just get off the bus, buy what I need and catch the next bus home.
It’s even open on Sundays.
The Show Must Go On
It looks like someone tried to ram-raid the Scribbler shop at The Angel.
But they were still open for business.
Where Have All The M & S Gluten Free Ginger Snaps Gone?
I eat a lot of Marks & Spencer’s gluten-free ginger snap biscuits.
Note.
- Three make a good snack.
- I find ginger is good for me.
- They are the best biscuits for dunking I’ve ever found.
But I’ve only found one lonely packet in the last two weeks.
And that was in Marks & Spencer’s Islington store, hidden away on the wrong shelf, all by itself.
Relief At Last
I was able to buy three packets in the Marks and Spencer Food Hall today, which is the 21st of May.
Moorgate Has Now Got A New Light-Controlled Crossing
The new light-controlled crossing on Moorgate is now open and I took these pictures yesterday after I shopped at Marks & Spencer and walked back to the bus.
This short shopping street has all I need for daily living and the odd bit of shopping.
- Boots
- Elizabeth Line station
- Hotel Chocolat
- Leon
- Marks and Spencers
- Timpsons
I generally visit every day.
My Faithful Servant
The picture shows the plastic shopping bag that I have used to bring my shopping home for at least the last five years.
Note.
- It folds up in my brief case.
- It carries the small amount of shopping, I buy on the odd day.
- My major shopping comes from Ocado and is placed in my hall by a usually cheery van driver.
- It is the right size to carry home dry cleaning.
- Unlike its paper replacement from Marks and Spencer, it doesn’t cut my hand.
Sometimes being 100 % green, isn’t the right way to go.
Northumberland Line Set To Hit 250,000 Passenger Journeys By Easter
The title of this post, is the same as that of this article on the Northumberland Gazette.
This is the sub-heading.
The Northumberland Line is set to hit a major milestone by Easter with a quarter of a million journeys undertaken.
These are the first three paragraphs.
Three of the line’s planned six stations are now in operation following the recent opening of Blyth Newsham.
However, council leader Glen Sanderson was forced to defend the £300 million investment in the railway line at Wednesday’s meeting of the county council.
It followed criticism from former council leader Jeff Reid, who has been a long-time sceptic of the impact reopening the line between Newcastle and Ashington would have.
There’s no pleasing some people.
The line just seems to be following a better pattern to the Dartmoor Line, which I wrote about in Dartmoor Line Passes 250,000 Journeys On Its First Anniversary, As Rail Minister Visits To Mark Official Opening Of The Station Building.
But then Newcastle is a much larger city than Exeter and the Northumberland Line serves more towns and villages than the Dartmoor Line, so it is not surprising, it has met the 250,000 milestone earlier.
I think it’s time to start building the next new line.
Trump’s Tariffs Threaten To Wipe Out UK’s Economic Growth
The title of this post is the same as that of this article on The Times.
This is the sub-heading.
Rachel Reeves could be forced to raise taxes or cut spending after the US president announced plans for tariffs of up to 25 per cent on cars
These three paragraphs add more detail.
Rachel Reeves faces having to raise taxes or cut spending if President Trump follows through on his threat to impose tariffs on Britain next week, the official budget watchdog has warned.
The chancellor was forced to announce a £14 billion package of cuts to repair the public finances in her spring statement after the Office for Budget Responsibility halved growth forecasts.
But the budget watchdog warned that there was a 50 per cent chance that Reeves would be forced to return with further cuts or tax rises as soon as October amid concerns that the UK’s economic outlook will deteriorate still further.
So I will hit back in the only way I can and avoid buying any goods made by US companies.
I have started by removing any US-owned products from my Ocado order on Saturday.
Ismael Was Early
My Ocado delivery is usually booked for 06:30 every Saturday morning.
Today, the driver; Ismail was five minutes early, which meant everything was packed away by 06:45.
It was the first time, the driver had been early, although none has been more than thirty minutes after the start of the delivery slot.
C and myself, always used to do the weekly shop at Waitrose, after breakfast on a Saturday morning, in case we were going out for the day.
I shall be going out today, but I’m not sure where yet.
