Hackney’s Cracked Pavements
I took this picture in the little bit of the City of London, that is actually in the London Borough of Hackney.
My Hackney pavements are very good, but obviously not all parts of the borough get the same quality of service.
Am I Getting Better At The Waitrose Self Check-Outs?
I seem to be getting at working the self check-outs in Waitrose. Could my left hand be getting better?
I doubt it. But I’m just learning to use it better!
It is certainly more use in typing!
Sharon From East Enders Was On The Bus!
Well not Sharon, but the character is certainly based on observing women in the East of London.
Totnes Declares Itself A Coffee Chain-Free Town
I like this article on the BBC web site about how Totnes is trying to keep the coffee chains out of the town.
Perhaps, it’s because, my maternal grandmother, who was born just round the corner from where I live now, had Devonian ancestry and that’s where I get my stubbornness from.
C Gets Stuck To Me!
When we went to Cardiff, it appeared that I lost one of the return train tickets. In the end it turned up in the back pocket of my wallet, stuck in there by an old Post-It note. I was a small one and written on it was an 0208 phone number. The writing appeared familiar at the time and only now, am I sure that it was C’s. In any case it wasn’t like any other of the usual suspects, who might have given me a Post-It note with a phone number on.
So has that note been looking after me, these nearly five years since she died? Who cares? I’m still here! Even if there is a touch of the just-abouts to it.
Are The Ghosts Of Long-Dead Steam Engines Powering Great Britain On?
As a ten-year-old or so, I used to bunk the engine sheds in East London to collect the numbers of the steam engines stabled there at the motive power depot. It was a massive place, as the number of engines needed to power services into East Anglia and Essex was very large. Many were being scrapped, as electrification of the suburban lines out of Liverpool Street continued.
Much of the site was cleared for HS1, the link to the Channel Tunnel from St. Pancras, but much of the area ended up a derelict site, supporting large numbers of businesses.
But it was here in Stratford, that the Olympic site was created.
So are the ghosts of those long-dead steam engines powering Great Britain on?
A Big Red Taxi
This 29 bus was totally empty except for a postman going off shift and myself, as I took it away from Trafalgar Square.
But then it was mid afternoon. Afterwards, I went to Waitrose and Starbucks at the Angel and they were quiet too!
Even Trafalgar Square Isn’t Busy
I took this picture in Trafalgar Square today.
I would have thought that it would have been busier. It could just be that most of the visitors have money and hanging round Trafalgar Square isn’t part of their itinerary.
No Shortage Of Litter Bins
There doesn’t appear to be to much of a shortage of litter bins.
This was one of many at North Greenwich
Newham Pushes The Bike Out
Newham was welcoming visitors and handing out information from a bicycle with a large box on the front, much like those used to dispense ice cream.
It’s a simple eco-friendly method and should be used more often. The picture incidentally was taken by the cable-car and it was quiet.
