Has Manchester City Bought the Premier League Title?

As today’s football draws to a close, it looks like nothing can stop Manchester City winning the Premier League Title. It just shows how unfair it is when those with the money always win.

The only hope is that the UEFA Financial Fair Play Rules bring a degree of discipline. These rules, incidentally, may hit Spain worse than anybody else, if the practices of Spanish clubs, I outlined here are stopped.

Worse To Be Late Than Racist

According to this article in the Guardian, Manchester City  have been fined €30,000 by UEFA for returning to the field late for the second half of their match against Sporting Lisbon.

This compares with a fine of just €20,000 for Porto for racially abusing Manchester City’s black players.

The logic of this defies me and I suspect every other person in the UK, be they a football fan or not. To take a simple example.

Does this mean if my bus is on time, I can’t racially abuse the driver, but if it is late, I can? Or is it the other way round? Not that we do this in London or in fact anywhere in the UK, even if the bus driver is a UEFA official doing a job on the side.

It’s Snowing in Manchester for a Change

Normally, it rains in Manchester, but tonight as I’m watching Manchester City play Fulham, it’s snowing.

Another disappointment for the Arabs, but at least it’s preferable to play in snow, than in forty degree heat, when they play the World Cup in Qatar.

What Do Fred Goodwin and Manchester City Have In Common?

They’ve both lost their title in the last couple of weeks.

It Would Appear That Money Can’t Buy You Everything!

Because Manchester City lost in Naples last night, it would appear that if the Italian team win their last match, then Manchester City are out of the Champions League.

How sad! I shall be crying into my cornflakes!  Like hell, I will!

At least it proves that money can’t buy you everything. Although, the jury is out on the allocation of the last two World Cups, judging by certain newspaper headlines.

Could Chelski End Up Fifth in the Premier League?

That’s where they are this morning and they look good to me in that position. Hopefully, the two Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Arsenal will keep them there!

Let’s hope so and perhaps Chelski’s dip in form will give Ipswich a chance in the FA Cup.

The Bigger They Are!!!

I’m not a vindictive person, but I do get a certain amont of pleasure, when I see certain rich men’s toys not performing as they could!

So to see Manchester City losing to Poznan in Poland tonight strengthens my belief that money never buys you what you think it should.

Let’s hope the Poles hang on!

They will now as they’ve just scored a third goal!

We all know that it’s the players they’ve bought, but how long before they fire the manager?

Wayne’s Crazy World!

Why is it that when we get a home-grown football superstar, in many cases it all ends in tears?

It’s not just the Paul Gascoignes and George Bests of this world, but every decade has had its fair share of footballers with drink, drugs, gambling, marriage or other personal problems. But there are many others, whose indeiscretions and problems are just those that effect us all. I remember talking to one ex-footballer, who said that he’d kept his nose clean, saved a lot of his money wisely and been able to get a good life after he retired.  He felt that life had been good to him.

So why when Wayne has it all  at his feet, does he throw a big wobbly at Manchester United.  If I were Sir Alex, I’d seriously give  consideration to letting him go to another club.  But then, that club might just be Manchester City, who let’s face it could afford any player, who thought money was more important than playing football.

But Rooney has often struck me as a bit of an idiot. I seem to remember that he recently took up smoking.  If that is true, my case is proven!

So perhaps, Sir Alex should sell Wayne Rooney to Manchester City and let them have all the problems! Unfortunately, there is a sell-on clause in Rooney’s contract, that would mean that Everton would get quite a bit of any transfer fee!

An Expensive way to keep the Bench Warm!

I had to laugh on Match of the Day last night, when the camera cut to all the expensive players that Manchester City have bought sitting quietly on the bench.  They looked as bored as sin. I suppose I would if I was paid all that money and didn’t make the team.

But at least the right result happened as Sunderland won.

Don’t you just love it, when mega-rich people make a complete fool of themselves!  I suppose though that it all redistributes the money, especially when your Italian striker crashes his £120,000 car.

Water Football

I’m just watching Burnley entertain Manchester City to a game of water football.  As it’s at the start of the second half and Burnley are five-nil down, I suspect they hope the rain continues to deluge and we get an abandonment.

I can remember an Ipswich against Manchester City match that was called off in similar circumstances at Maine Road.
