A Stupid Football Supporter

Is this message for the most stupid and bone-headed football supporter, who happened to be at Leeds United on Tuesday night?

He had parked his Chevroler Spark, LT12 FNE, in the wrong place and despite umpteen public address calls to move it, he obviously ignored them, as they put this message on the big screen.

The message stayed there for quite a time, so draw your own conclusions.

The fact that Leeds United could program the screen like this, is impressive.  I wouldn’t have been so polite.

An Advantage Of Not Owning A Car

Because I just missed a train on the return from Pokesdown station, I had an hour to kill.

It was enlivened by a few minutes helping this Ipswich supporter find where he might have parked his car for the match, using a map at the station.

He’d driven down on Saturday, stayed in a hotel and then driven over on the Sunday. But he had no idea, of the name of the road he’d parked in. I don’t know whether he had a sat-nav, but it wasn’t much use to him if he had, as it would have been the car.

And then to cap it all, we told him to turn right out of the station.  And he turned left!

And others talk about silly Suffolk!

All I have to do is remember the way back to the station.  If I should forget, I can always take a taxi or a bus! Or even ask directions for something that has been there for a few years!

More Money Than Sense?

I like these two  stories on the BBC web site.

One is about expensive motors  parked outside Harrods and the other is about a Lamborghini clamped for no insurance in Newham.

I say bring on the crushers.

How about a portable crusher which lifts the car in and then crushes it whilst everybody watches? It has some of the fascinations that used to be associated with public executions centuries ago. But it is very humane and no-one gets physically hurt!

Do We Really Want To Save Preston Bus Station?

Preston Bus Station is an iconic building of the 1960s. As I’ve never used, let alone seen it, I can’t comment on the design, but it does evoke strong feelings.

The government has now given it Listed status, which doesn’t fit well with the local councils’ plans to demolish it. The BBC has a report.

I’m going to Manchester and Derby on October the first. I think it’s somewhere that deserves a visit! So perhaps, I’ll start in Preston and work my way down.

Looking at the map, it seems that the bus station, is not by the railway station. So perhaps the building is in the wrong place? After all the ideal railway station, should be integrated with the local buses, like say Barnsley, Canning Town or Sheffield.

You Don’t Get Behaviour Like This On The Dalston Omnibus!

This tragic tale from Biggleswade, shows what you get when you mix two men of my age, shopping and an argument over parking.

You certainly don’t get any behaviour like this on the Dalston omnibus to or from Waitrose at the Angel. The most outrageous behaviour I saw, was a guy laughing at two ladies sitting beside each other who were probably about fifty years old; one black and one white, who’d both hurt a leg and their hospitals had furnished them each with one crutch. Everybody saw the funny side! Especially the ladies!

I do wonder sometimes, why people bother with driving. I miss it like a hole in the head!

I’ve actually never been to Asda and if you get killed in their car parks, I doubt I will now!

Visitors Parking Vouchers In Hackney

I may be a non-driver these days, but it doesn’t mean, I don’t have visitors with cars.

Last week, I bought some all day vouchers and today, I bought some for two hours.

Would you believe that effectively you have two separate accounts for each voucher?

The guy behind the desk in the Parking office thought it was crazy too!

Surely systems should be devised to be the most convenient for everybody.  I can’t imagine that this is convenient for anybody!

Where To Park In Edinburgh

This article is the second most popular on the BBC’s web site.

I just wonder how many of the viewers are from Glasgow!

Surprisingly, it doesn’t have anything to do with the Edinburgh tram.

Traffic In The New Kings Road

I’d gone to Chelsea to check out the traffic in one of the most congested areas of London and also to look at a box junction dubbed Moneybox by the Daily Mail in this article. These are the pictures I took.

I noticed several things that make this area so bad for traffic.

1. I’d actually got off the bus and walked because it was quicker.  I wonder how many people don’t use the buses because it’s quicker to drive. By comparison here just north of the Angel, I would suspect the buses are quicker.

2. Note the number of large heavy good vehicles in the road. what are they doing here at lunchtime on a Tuesday.  again to compare to the Angel, you do see some going through, but not as many as I did today.

3. You will notice in some of pictures, that trucks and vans are parked at the side of the road.  some may be doing deliveries, but one van just had a couple of guys in it, eating their lunch.

I suppose there is just too much traffic and you can understand, why Ken introduced a Congestion Charge in the area.

It’s a severe problem and luckily, it doesn’t affect me, unless I go to the area on a bus.

What A Load Of Old Boulders!

My trip south of the Big Sewer today was to see Croydon’s latest attempt at art, parking control or bad taste at New Addington.

They are certainly not my idea of good design.
